He founded Browning Firearms Company in 1908 and manufactured some of the most famous firearms including the Winchester Repeating Arms Company Model 1903 Springfield Rifle, Colt 1911 Pistol (the world's first handgun), and Remington Model 730 Shotgun. In 1927, Browning merged with arms dealer Maxim Firearms Corporation to form National Firearm Manufacturing Company (NFMC). NFMC produced a wide range of firearms including shotguns, pistols, rifles, airguns, as well as artillery pieces such as howitzers and tanks. In 1970–71 NFMC merged with Sturm Ruger & Co., Inc., one of America’s leading firearm makers, to become Sturm Ruger & Co., Inc., which continues to produce quality firearms today under its own name.

Today, target shooting is a popular pastime enjoyed by everyone from children to adults, both in competitions and at home. Target shooting has its roots in medieval archery, where bows were used as weapons against targets made from wood or other materials. The first successful use of firearms in combat took place during the American Revolution, when Bostonians took aim at British warships using pistols wielded by sailors. It wasn't until 1857 that an infantry unit was equipped with rifles for warfare. Despite their limitations, early firearms had a limited ability to kill large numbers of people at close range. This was beginning to change with the development of breech-loading artillery pieces that could be fired multiple times per minute. By the 1860s, riflemen had become skilled enough to take advantage of this new technology and devastating firepower was unleashed on battlefields all over the world. In 1944, World War II veteran Johnnie Walker became the first person ever killed while practicing target shooting on his farmstead in southeastern Georgia. His death helped abolish military target practice as an openly sanctioned activity within America's armed forces – an event that would continue throughout the Cold War era (see also: WWII Target Shooting). Belleville is one of the most populous cities in Chicago area and a major cultural and commercial center for the southern U.S. state of Illinois. Belleville was founded by Captain John Richardson as a small community on October 5, 1827 near what is now the campus of De La Salle University. The first post office was established in Belleville on November 16, 1828. The first store opened in Belleville on December 1, 1829 with John Wagoner as its owner and manager. On May 8, 1830, James Prentice incorporated the town of Belleville with a population of just 11 people under the name "Belleville". A fire destroyed part of town on July 10th but re-opened two days later to teach children how to use fireside wood burning stoves which would become an important help during early settlement times. In 1840, Jno Hinton became headmaster of Belleville Academy and started teaching English to Black American slaves who had been brought over from Africa by their owners for labor purposes in nearby Joliet Township (now East Stroudsburg). In 1847 he married Sarah Jane Whitehead; they were both teachers and abolitionists before becoming Mrs Hinton's parents-in-law when she married him secondly in 1865. They lived until their deaths at 95 years old each in Belleville after many years spent traveling throughout America helping others find freedom from slavery through education and activism work together Bellevilles main street still bears his name today – Hinton Street – although it has since been renamed several other streets including Richardson Highway (formerly State Road 3), State Road 2 (formerly US 31), Quincy Avenue (formerly State Road 6) and finally President Abraham Lincoln Boulevard following his assassination attempt here on April 14th 1865 while living here with his wife Sarah Jane Lincoln Held every 4th weekend beginning on or around April 15th through September 4th each year since its inception in 1915 this event marks one day after Memorial Day across America where citizens come together to celebrate our nation’s fallen heroes without actually attending any military funerals that weekend
