Belleville is a city in the U.S. state of Illinois, located on the border of Cook County and DuPage County. The population was 508 at the 2010 census, down from 516 at the 2000 census. Belleville has a rich history dating back to 1836 when General James K. Polk sent an army through Belleville to invade Canada during the Great Lakes War. Belleville was founded on May 25, 1836, by Captain John Stephenson as a small camp near what is now Rockford Hills with only six tents and twenty-four soldiers under his command. In 1837, Stephenson built a sawmill and gristmill on which he operated until 1840 when he sold them to David Herron who organized the first post office in Belleville (then unincorporated). Herron named it for himself, George Washington Burrittville after his father-in-law; Burritt later served as Mayor of Chicago from 1861 to 1865 under Abraham Lincoln The community rapidly developed due to its strategic location - just south of present day Rockford Hills across State Street from what is now Wrigley Field - its close proximity to larger communities such as Wheaton (to the east), Grayslake (to the north), River Forest (to the west) and Lombard (to the south). By 1860, Belleville had a courthouse, schoolhouse, Baptist church/synagogue, post office and stores. One account reports that: “In less than two years [of its establishment], this new town had grown so large that it could not be easily accommodated within itself... It necessary therefore that some other place should be provided for it” On February 22nd 1870 General Phil Sheridan's Union army arrived at Grayslake just outside Belleville with orders to march intoChicago on September 15th 1870 whereupon President Ulysses S Grant would sign General Order No 001 authorizing Sheridan's crossing of state lines into Illinois
There is no one answer to the question of how many guns are sling shots. However, there are a variety of sources that offer estimates of the number of slingshots in circulation. According to "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak, 1 million firearms were manufactured between 1888 and 1938. This means that there must have been at least 1 million firearms equipped with sling shot technology active during this time frame. Additionally, according to "Gun Digest", an article written in 1951, 3% of all shotguns used in America were capable of firing shotgun rounds that could be fired by pulling the trigger with a hand-held launcher called a slingshot. This means that approximately 9 millions shotguns were equipped with this technology at some point during the 50 years between 1951 and 1988. From these numbers it can be assumed that around 20-30 million firearms contain sling shot technology which would amount to about 2%. Therefore, if we consider only handguns, then the total number of pistols and rifles possessing sling shot technology amounts to about 7%. It should also be noted that not all handguns possess sling shot technology - for example most revolvers do not - so a complete examination of this statistic would be beyond the scope of this paper.
