Belleville, Illinois is home to one of the most active airgun communities in the United States. The history of Belleville begins with two brothers, Harry and Alois Kapp, who started shooting guns together in their parents' backyard. By the time they were teenagers, they had built a collection of more than 20 firearms and were ready to hit the ground running as Airgunners Incorporated. In 1951, Harry and Alois bought an old factory building on Wabash Avenue and began manufacturing their own airguns - initially using components from surplus military rifles. Today, Belleville is home to three production factories that churn out nearly 300 different types of airguns products. collectively, these factories employ over 150 people and are responsible for designing, manufacturing, marketing and selling nearly every type of airgun available on the market. Airgunners Incorporated was a key player in developing America's first truly mass-produced rifle-based air gun platform - the RB24/5A2 . The success of this product led to other companies following suit, including Brownells (now Crosman) which developed the BB pistol; Ruger which produced its infamous "Ruger Redhawk" series; Colt manufactured its Model 9mm pistols; Savage released its line of centerfire rifles; Remington produced its 700 Predator rifles; Winchester released its Model 1100 automatic shotguns; Ithaca made its debut with the Ithaca Taurus revolver series; while Smith & Wesson continued making revolvers (e.g., their Police Positive). Belleville is a town in DuPage County, Illinois, United States. The population was 3,898 at the 2010 census. Belleville is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Belleville was founded on December 12, 1834 by General James K. Polk and his wife Sarah Hague as the trading post for what is now DuPage County. On July 1, 1836, Belleville became the county seat of DuPage County after being moved from nearby Joliet to its present location due to flooding caused by the Great Chicago Fire of1835. It would be several years before Belleville again became the county seat following annexation of Kane County in 1853. The original plat for Belleville included a square mile (1 km²) north of where it now stands; this area has since been developed into downtown Belleville with many high-rise buildings including One Lincoln Place which was built in 1911 and ranks second in size among all single-story structures in Illinois. The first school established in Belleville was on Elm Street near Presentation Avenue; it opened in 1836 and taught children from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. In 1840, a log schoolhouse named Griggs School replaced the first one and operated until 1886 when it burned down due to vandalism by students. A new log schoolhouse was erected on First Avenue between State and Washington Streets within two years ofGriggs’s fire; it served as both schools until 1951 when school consolidation eliminated most localovaices throughout Illinois so that only individual schools remained within each township or village formevelopment). The old Griggs School building still stands today as part of Emmanuel Lutheran Church on First Avenue just east of State Street (note: Most churches built prior to 1950 were destroyed during suburbanization). By 1812, all cannons in Europe had been equipped with GTAMs. The first real airgun was invented in 1814 by George Stephenson. He designed an airgun that uses compressed gas to shoot pellets instead of metal balls or plastic darts. This weapon is known as the Penny Farthing Rifle and became very popular among farmers and game shooters during the 19th century because it was easy to reload and could be fired quickly
