Beach Park is a census-designated place in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 10,874 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first people to live in Beach Park were the Kaskaskia Band of Potawatomi Indians. In 1836 they built a log cabin on what is now State Road 50 West. They named their community after their home country, Canada. In 1868, the town of Beach Park was organized and platted by John Surtees and James Hickey as a village on the east side of present day State Street between Michigan Avenue and Lake Shore Drive. The first post office was established in 1870 with Wm. Beecham as its first clerk. In 1875, Beach Park had a population of 300 residents and two churches: one Congregational and one Presbyterian. In 1898, Beach Park became an incorporated town with a population of 1,500 residents when it joined the city of Chicago through annexation from Cicero Township (now Northbrook). A Trolley line served BeachPark from 1902 until 1941 when it was replaced by buses service on State Road 50 West between Northwest Side Highway (then Diversey Parkway) and Armour Avenue serving all populated areas within Cook County except for Evanston which received its own bus service from 1925 until 1957 when that service was merged into Northwestern Bus Company’s Northwestern Line Service monopoly across all suburban Cook County towns north of I-95/I-294 junction including Orlandale; Schaumburg; Glenview; Arlington Heights; Streamwood; Wheaton; Plainfield Hills; Mount Prospect ; Lawndale ; Elmhurst ; Niles ; Custom House Square ; Forest Hill South Elgin Grove streets bordering Douglas Lakeshore were also served but these Streets no longer serve as business or residential corridors today due to lack of funding or other interests in those areas beyond expanding neighboring jurisdictions’ jurisdiction boundaries

The history of Beach Park, Illinois can be traced back to the early 1800s. The first settlement in what is now Beach Park was made up of a group of Methodist ministers who arrived in 1818. They built a farm on the current site of the town and named it after their beach resort in France. By 1827, the majority of the settlers had left for other parts of Illinois, but some remained behind and founded a second farm called Clearbrook. This community served as a stop on stagecoach routes that connected Chicago with other states. In 1872, two brothers by the name of Beattie purchased the Clearbrook farm and renamed it Beach Park. They began to build a small village around their home; this development would become known as Beach Park. The brothers also opened a general store and tavern which helped to support the town’s growth. By 1875, Beach Park had become an agricultural community with over 20 farms and businesses located within its boundaries. In 1911, Beach Park became one of twenty townships in Cook County, Illinois when it was created from part of Round Lake Township. During World War II, many materials used in munitions manufacturing were produced at nearby factories; these plants resulted in severe pollution that impacted nearly every aspect of life in Beach Park. In 1949, beach park became another township when it was merged into Deerfield Township.; however, due to population growth and changes within Deerfield Township., much OFthe original development within beach park has been lost over time- including much of its commercial district which once included several large stores and restaurants dating back to before World War II
Beach Park, in the town of West Dundee on the Gulf Coast of Illinois, was first settled by white people in 1834. The area now known as Beach Park was originally part of a small Indian tribe called the Potawatomi. In 1837, General David Dixon and his army invaded Illinois and burned down many villages along the Mississippi River before reaching Beach Park. The Potawatomi were forced to leave their land and retreated to what is now Northern Indiana. In 1847, Beach Park became a town under the jurisdiction of Beech Grove Township in DuPage County. On November 11,1847, Mayor John Haggerty presented a petition to the state government for incorporation as a town. The vote was 2-to-1 in favor of incorporation and Beach Park became a city on January 1,1848. On December 21, 1886, Chicago's first electric train arrived at Beach Park from Joliet just after midnight CST with stops at Granada Hills (now its namesake), Hawthorne Heights (now Herndon), Navy Pier (now Pier 70), Crystal City (now Arlington Heights) and West Dundee (now Westville). The first streetcar service between Deerfield Station on the Northwest Side and South Side stations began on April 14th 1889 with one trip per day starting at 5:00 A.M., seven days a week!
