Beach Park is a small town in McHenry County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,937 at the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1892 and named for Beachwood on the north side of Chicago. It was incorporated as a village in 1908. In 1956 it became a city. The first settler in Beach Park was William Hadden, who arrived on October 21, 1892. Hadden built a cabin on the east side of Chicago and named his new community after Beechwood Manor near London, England where he had been living before coming to America. In 1907 Beach Park had a population of 400 residents and was composed of two main business districts: the North Side Business District which included most of downtown Beach Park as well as some residential areas to the south; and South Side Business District which consisted mostly of single-family homes along Michigan Avenue between Roosevelt Road and State Street. In 1956 Beach Park became an official city with its own mayor and City Hall located at 202 Erie Boulevard. At that time it had a population of over 14,000 people making it one of the largest cities in Illinois by population size when it joined the city fold. As part of its incorporation into City Hall Plaza district (later called Downtown), beach park also saw some major infrastructure projects including construction of Streetscape Drive which connected Erie Boulevard with State Street; addition of new public works buildings including Police Headquarters (now known as City Hall Annex); expansion/ renovation/ improvement to multiple fire stations; installation or replacement of several streetlights; installation or replacement/ expansion/ improvement to numerous parks including Beacheside Park (later renamed Snug Harbor Marina), Indian Head Point Recreation Area, Boardwalk at Grandview Heights Shopping Center - now known as Oriental Trading Company plaza -and much more!

The village was founded in 1887 by German immigrants as Beach Haven on Presque Isle Island in Lake Michigan. In 1914 it became a separate municipality and was incorporated as Beach Park on July 1, 1916. The name "Beach Park" comes from one of the first places that settlers landed on Presque Isle when they arrived in 1847: Beacheside Landing On the Dark Side of Presque Isle Harbor had been chartered by General John Fitch to be a place where men could rest and recuperate after crossing the ice-covered island. Beach Park's history reflects its location: just south of Interstate 80 between Pulaski Road and Old State Road (now US 41), it has always been close to major highways with easy access to beaches and water supplies. The municipal library opened in 1944 and remains open today; its collection includes more than 2,000 books about local history dating back to 1886. In recent years, beach-related businesses have begun to spring up throughout town – including two now defunct amusement parks – but most residents continue to rely heavily on public beaches for their activities and pleasure. Fishing tournaments are held annually at several locations around town; sand volleyball courts are also popular among locals; there are also twice-monthly farmers markets near downtown which offer fresh produce from local farms as well as prepared foods like pierogi doughnuts from local vendors or bacon wrapped dates from a nearbyDeluxe Diner).
