The Beach Park community was settled in 1871, when the first post office was opened in the town. The name of the town originated from a bend in the Illinois River that formed its namesake.
Beach Park is a small town located in McHenry County, Illinois. The population was 1,849 at the 2010 census. Beach Park is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. It is bordered by Rockford to the north and west, Aurora to the east, and Peoria to the south. The first permanent settler in Beach Park was John Beattie, who arrived in 1834. He built a cabin on what is now State Street. A post office was established in 1835, but it didn’t remain open long because of competition from nearby Rockford. In 1838, John Craine settled down in Beach Park after moving from Indiana. He founded a grocery store and tavern called The Gilded Cage where he entertained visitors for several years before it burned down in 1840. In 1845, Henry Jourdan moved into Beach Park and founded Jourdan’s Tavern which still stands today on Main Street. Jourdan became one of the early settlers of McHenry County and his tavern would later serve as the nucleus for many other businesses including a bank (1879), an insurance company (1905), and most notably as home to Northwestern University’s Law School (1922). In 1850, George Stephenson purchased land adjacent to present day beach park from Caleb Gibbs for $1 million dollars which he used as development land for his Stephenson Villa Estate which included two miles of oceanfront beach front property that would later be known as Hanover Island . In 1865, Stephenson donated 3 acres along Waveland Avenue bordering Hanover Island to village trustees so that they could create a public square or green space adjoining their private home which became known as Stevenson Square . The square served as courthouse until 1903 when it was replaced by the current Courthouse Annex . In 1923-24 Village President Harry Swayne created a Recreation Area bounded by Waveland Avenue southwestward towards Rockford Road northeastward; Third Avenue northwestward towards State Street southeastward; Boulevard Heights eastward towards State Street; North Shore Drive running northerly along Waveland Avenue between First and Second Streets; Middle Shore Drive running easterly along Third Avenue between Fourth and Fifth Streets; South Shore Drive running westerly along FourthStreet between Sixth and Seventh Streets . From this recreation area developed much of what remains today about Beach Park with its wide sandy beaches , seashore borders , friendly people , wild flowers , wiener dogs - alligators - offshore islands - popular summer activities such as swimming & sunbathing - oyster harvesting during low water levels - winter activities such as snowball fights & sleigh rides

Beach Park is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, located on the shore of Lake Michigan. It was platted in 1864 and named for Commodore John W. Beach. The population was 1,451 at the 2010 census. The first settlers in Beach Park were Methodists from Indiana. A church and school were built there in 1865, but it closed due to financial difficulties. In 1868, the first post office was established in Beach Park and it remained open until 1915. In 1870, a sawmill was built on the banks of the river near present-day Beech Grove Drive. The mill continued to operate until 1914 when it became part of the American Telephone and Telegraph Company (AT&T). In 1872, a gristmill was built on the east side of town by J. Henson & Sons Mills Incorporated. It operated until 1923 when it became part of United States Steel Corporation (USSC). In 1886, a fruit orchard was founded by Lorenzo Pappalardo and his brother Luigi Pappalardo on land that now includes much of downtown Beach Park. The fruit orchard operated until 1942 when it became part of United Fruit Company (UFC). A water tower was built in 1912 on top of an old quarry next topresent-day Lincoln Road which served as one of Beach Park's only sources of drinking water for many years after World War I ended with no end to hostilities between Great Britain and America over control over this important shipping route across the ocean.
Beach Park was founded in 1892 by two brothers, George and John Beach. The original land for the park was donated by their father, who owned a small parcel of land on the beach. The brothers built a small sandpit and boating dock to serve as the park's first amenities. In 1908, they opened the first public swimming pool in Illinois. In 1912, Beach Park became a state park and was renamed after Lake Michigan's Beaches State Park.
