The first beach at Beach Park was called Pemaquid Bayou because it connected directly with Pemaquid Lake on Vancouver Island near modern-day Red Bank, New Jersey; however this location proved too shallow so a new jetty was built about 0.4 mile south from where today's jetty sits on Kedzie Boulevard just off Michigan Avenue on Chicago's South Side (the original site). In 1915 Congress authorized appropriations for dredging operations along both coasts making it possible to finally build a deep channel between Pemaquid Lake and Manitowoc Bay which became known as Beacheside Drive or simply Beacheside after World War II when all access thereto within Cook County was closed by order of President Harry Truman due to concerns about shark populations nesting there! Beach Park is a small town in the county of Cook in the U.S. state of Illinois. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is located on the north side of Chicago and just west of Michigan Avenue. The first permanent settler in Beach Park was George Weyerhaeuser, who arrived in 1847 and bought land from James Kapp and others. Weyerhaeuser built a log cabin near what is now Beech Street, which he named "Island". He also built a sawmill on the stream that flows through his property today. In 1851, Weyerhaeuser married Anna Ladd, who had moved to Illinois from Wisconsin Rapids, Minnesota. They started a family and farmed the land around Beach Park until Anna's death in 1886. In 1896, Harry Lawler purchased some of Anna's land surrounding Beach Park from her estate for $1,000 cash only - setting off what would become one of the most significant periods in Beach Park history. Harry Lawler was one of the early settlers in Beach Park and became its first postmaster when it opened its doors to residents on July 1, 1896. Harry Lawler resided at 5609 Naper Drive until his death in 1978; his wife Nora stayed behind to operate their farmstead until her death in 1984. In 2007-2008 there were major renovations to Harry Lawler House which included adding new flooring and update plumbing; as well as additional interior woodwork restoration including original door handles and windowills
The first organized beach park in Beach Park was established in 1887. The park was named after President Grover Cleveland, who donated the land to the city.
