In 1875, Judge John Wirth built Oneida Academy adjacent to Priest's Grove to serve as an alternative education for poorer students in the area. In 1865, Josiah Fenton established a blacksmith shop and foundry on State street nearpresent-day Wrightwood Avenue in Bartlett which continues to operate today as Fenton’s forge company. Fenton also donated land for a public school district that would include Bartlett between 1870 and 1925; this school district is now known as McHenry County Grades 1-6 School District No. 6
