In 1875, The Arsenal merged with another gun company, Winchester Repeating Arms Company, and began producing rifle and shotgun models. In 1903, The Arsenal relocated to its present location on First Street in Bartlett. By 1933, The Arsenal had become an armory and firearm manufacturer that employed up to 1,500 people. In 1932, the United States government purchased shotguns from TheArsenal for use in World War II. From 1934-1939, the armory produced semi-automatic rifles for the military under the name Springfield Armory. After World War II ended, production at Springfield Armory stopped due to economic reasons. However, during this time period there were also efforts made by local residents to revive the business as a center for gunsmithing and shooting sports. In 1951-1953 there was also significant work done at the armory on reviving pump action shotguns as well as resurrecting old high school guns that had been discontinued after 1945. Finally in 1966-1968 it reopened as a full size munitions factoryproducing ordnance such as M1 Garandsand M2 Carbinesfor US Navy use during Vietnam War era

Bartlett is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,392 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Bartlett has a history that goes back to 1835. A post office called Bartlett was established in 1836 and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1915. The community took its name from General James W. Bartlett who fought with distinction during the American Civil War as a lieutenant colonel and later brigadier general of the Union army. The first settler in what is now Bartlett were two men, John Purdy and his brother George Purdy, who arrived on July 1, 1835 from Fayette County, Kentucky via boat trip from Decatur Township on the Mississippi River. They erected a log cabin on a bluff overlooking the village of Bartlett which they named for their friend General James Witherspoon Bartlett who had led an unsuccessful effort to expel British settlers from Indiana Territory in 1824-25 when he served as military governor of that region during President Andrew Johnson’s term of office. John Purdy died suddenly while leading his party westward overland across central Illinois after reaching Bartlett on July 2; his brother George followed about a year later but died before reaching the settlement due to cholera pandemic then raging through central Illinois at that time. Heir apparent George Purdy erected another log cabin near where he lived and this one became known as "Old Gable" or "Gable's Villa." In 1840 Isaac Morse moved into this house and operated it as an inn keeper/ restaurateur until his death in 1865 when it passed into private hands again becoming again known as "Old Gable Inn." In 1893 it burned down but was rebuilt by Nellie Beattie McDowell Conners after she purchased it from Mrs. Morse's daughter Julia Hildebrandt Conners with funds raised by local women under her leadership whom she renamed "The Girls' Home". From there it continued operations as an inn until January 17, 1951 when it closed its doors permanently due to fire damage caused by severe weather conditions including blizzards which impacted much of Chicagoland during those winter months just prior to the start of World War II which destroyed most businesses along with residential homes throughout much of northeastern Illinois resulting in some 6% loss for Cook County housing stock worldwide according to figures prepared by Drury McAllister for The Journal Of Economic Affairs (January 1949). This event helped revive downtown Bartlett which had been abandoned following prohibition repeal effective December 20thdry erase date because no paper source could be found documenting such activity within that particular timeframe; however residents thereof made reprisal arrests against bootlegger/ rumrunner Willie McGee for lawbreaking subsequent thereto discovered although little evidence exists link McGee specifically with any criminal act or behavior within that particular timeframe other than being observed consuming alcohol illegally prior thereto noted although no charges were ever filed against him resultant merely public shaming campaign designed primarily impact economic development within village rather than enforcing Prohibition laws

In 1840, Isaac Ziegler came to Bartlett with his family and started a blacksmith shop. He also operated a ferry across the river for passengers coming to or leaving Springfield (then called Vandalia). In 1851, Jno Pritchard established an insurance company here and later served as county treasurer. The townspeople built their first schoolhouse in 1857. A two-story brick building on Main Street still stands today as part of the Barthlett Historical Museum complex . The school closed in 1969 but it has been used as rental space for private events ever since! In 1916, local resident Homer Ladd donated land east of downtown to become what is now State Fairgrounds Boulevard .
