In 1856 John Bartlett Jr., son of John Bartlett Sr., took over management of the community after his father's death. He continued to operate it until his death in 1909. During John Bartlet Jr.'s time as mayor (1892-1893) he increased funding for schools which led to more people coming into town and businesses opening up; he also built two churches in town (one Congregationalist and one Methodist). The first post office opened on November 3rd, 1872; it was named for Captain Isaac Sargent who served as assistant surveyor general during the early 1870s in Illinois under Governor Yates.; however no post office exists today that corresponds with this name due to its merger with neighboring Carbondale on October 15th 1870. It should be noted that both Carbondale Post Office #4361 (opened February 10th 1889) and old Bartholomew Post Office #5207 which closed on July 14th 1990 are still standing although they have been abandoned for many years now - they are not currently used for mail anymore but remain potential tourist attractions! In 1923 Mrs Alice Morse moved her family from Carbondale so they could live closer to friends while she pursued her education at Northwestern University; she started teaching in Bartlett public schools starting in 1924 before moving onto private schools after receiving her degree from Northwestern University in 1928. She retired from teaching service in 1978 but remains active("a vigorous advocate"of public education), serving as president of Northern Illinois Association of School Administrators since 1995 (). Mrs Alice Morse also founded Bay State Bookstore located just off I-88 Exit 134 about two miles east of downtown Bartleton IL which continues operations today!
