Bartlett is a town in Macomb County, Illinois, United States. It is the seat of Macomb Township. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. The first people to settle in Bartlett were Reuben and Esther Post and their children on July 4, 1833. They set up a tannery and raised chickens. In 1835 they built a mill which did well until it burned down in 1846. They then started a corn feeder and store with their daughter Anna Maria Post. It was operated for many years until it closed its doors in 1914 because of high prices for goods from other towns within miles. In 1853 the Post family started a gristmill that became very successful until it caught fire in 1865 due to an excess of flour dust inside the building. The Post family rebuilt the mill which still operates today as the post office Mill & Gristmills Museum Incorporated (PO Box 5) across from the old courthouse on High Street in Bartlett Village Historic District No.#1 ( map ). In 1915, Anna Maria's husband John Pappas organized what would become known as "The Bartlett Bulldogs" football team which played its first game against Elmira Academy on October 8th 1915 at Veterans Park behind First National Bank Building #2 (now part of agribusiness complex). After playing two games against Elmira Academy that year they finished second from bottom of their class standings so they didn't qualify for state championships but continued to play exhibition games throughout 1916-1917 against other small schools including Crystal Lake High School (today's South Holland Elementary School), North Central Illinois Normal College (now Southern Illinois University Carbondale), Eureka College and finallyNormal University where they lost 41-0 on September 12th 1917 before 10,000 spectators at Jordan Field . During these early years there were no rules about who could play for "The Bartlett Bulldogs". As time went by more teams joined them including: McLean Grammar School (#5), Crystal Lake High School (#7), Eureka College (#9) and finally Normal University (#11). In 1927 local citizens decided to name their new high school after General George Washington Carver who had been president of Normal University when most of Bartlett residents attended that institution during those years. He donated land adjacent to his normal university property for this purpose which became Carver Stadium/Highway 11 Campus Hiway development initially housing both undergraduate students and graduate students while also serving as home stadium for various athletic events; however this failed to meet popular demand so gradually it reverted back into general use as an elementary school facility starting with grades PreK thru 6th grade before being used commercially by AnheuserBusch Brewery employees' parents starting in 1986 thru present day although some portions remain vacant

The town of Bartlett, Illinois was founded in 1824 by a group of farmers who came from the small town of Lancaster in Pennsylvania. The settlers named the community after an English gentleman, John Bartlett, who had come to live in that area some time earlier. The town rapidly grew and soon became a busy center for commerce and farming. In 1837, the first school was built in Bartlett and it served as the primary educational institution for the community until 1971. In addition to its educational importance, Bartlett also played an important role during the nineteenth century as a center for industry and culture. As one of only two towns located on both sides of the Missouri River, it was often called "the river town." This status helped Bartlett become known as one of the most prosperous communities in Illinois. During its heyday, Bartlett experienced significant growth and development. It became home to a number of businesses such as breweries, lumberyards, cotton plantations, and other agricultural operations. Additionally, during this time period it attracted prominent citizens such as Daniel Webster and Andrew Johnson. In addition to its economic success, Bartlett also enjoyed several cultural moments throughout its history. These include hosting numerous events such as concerts and fairs which drew admirers from all over Illinois; playing host to prestigious international visitors; and becoming known for its delicious produce statewide.
BARTlett was founded in 1854 by Reverend George Bartlett. The town has a population of about 2,000 people today.
