Bartlett, Illinois is a town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago Metropolitan Area. The village of Bartlett was merged into Bartlett Township in 1868. The first settler in Bartlett was George Henson, who founded a log cabin on the banks of the North Branch of the Des Plaines River in 1786. In 1812 John Cranch erected a small gristmill on what is now its east side. A post office called Bartlett was established in 1824, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1870. In 1829 Jesse James Platt settled near present-day Midway Park and built a log cabin along the north bank of the Des Plaines River. He named his settlement "Bartlett." In 1830 Thaddeus Stevens erected a small frame house near where he now stands and continued to live there until his death ten years later; his widow still resides there today. In 1835 Isaac Niles moved from Maryland to Decatur County and began farming about three miles (5 km) west of present-day Bartlett on land that had been deeded to him by General Anthony Wayne during their bitter Indian Wars campaign against Native American forces south of Lake Michigan. Niles became an entrepreneur: He opened up new markets for goods brought overland by traders from Great Britain and Europe, developed transportation links between Decatur County and Chicago via fur trading posts downstream on the Fox River, built roads and bridges across various streamsides along his farmlands, raised livestock, furnished lumber for building construction throughout Northwest Territory (the future Midwest), gained experience as an auctioneer handling sales both inside and outside Indiana's capital city Indy., married Anna Maria Goodspeed (daughter of Peter Goodspeed), commenced business operations as Isaac Niles Auctioneering Company No 2 with Anna Maria Goodspeed as President/CEO/Owner & soon thereafter added other branches including Niles Furniture Emporium which operated successfully into the 1940s (& through modern day subsidiaries), becoming one of America's most successful retail enterprises with more than $1 billion ($ when adjusted for inflation)[9] before closing its doors permanently due primarily to cost overruns with participation by local civic organizations & developers motivated by Tax Increment financing programs enacted by then Mayor Richard Mello after World War II resulted increased suburban sprawl around downtown Indianapolis eroding farmland values within minutes' walk or mere phone call away! It has recently been proposed that large parts or allof downtown Indianapolis be preserved & restored thanks to growing public interest & support during last 15 years or less following passage (in 2006) Of Cook Counties Restoration Plan Revision Bill Sponsored By This Paper As A Means To Encourage Development Within Downtown Neighborhood While Protecting Farmers Market District Which straddles I-65 And Wabash River belt Another proposal being made includes demolishing old buildings adjacent to Soldier Field baseball stadium & turning those areas into officesulture district adjoining museum neighborhoods currently experiencing rapid growth adjacent thereto dubbed Center Citywest

Bartlett, Illinois is a small town located in Kane County, Illinois. It was founded in 1849 by General James H. Bartlett and his family. The population of Bartlett was 1,052 at the 2010 census. The first settlers to the area were farmers who came from Kentucky and other parts of the United States during the 1850s. By 1870, there were about 20 people living in Bartlett. In 1881, the first post office was opened in Bartlett and it remained operational until 1907. In 1907, a school was built in Bartlett and it operated until 1916 when it was replaced by a high school which still operates today. The first football game played in Bartlett took place on November 23, 1914 against Park Ridge High School (now part of Mater Dei University). In 1945, an airplane hangar and airstrip were built adjacent to the high school campus. This allowed for an increased number of flights at nearby Rome-Dulles Airport which then became one of Illinois' busiest airports. In 1951, general Motors announced that they would be moving their research center from Flint Hills Arsenal in Kansas City Missouri to southern Illinois due to new federal regulations limiting engine size within certain classes of vehicles - this led to heavy industry relocation throughout much of Midwestern America during the early 21st century as companies sought to maintain competitive advantages over their peers outside North America while avoiding Uptown Chicagoealousy (the downtown business district). Chrysler also moved its operations southward into central Illinois after selling its old Dodge plant in 1980 just north of Decatur on the border with Indiana; thus ending what had been one of America's largest automotive manufacturing empires east of Detroit – and putting southeastern Cook Counties (including western Kane) solidly within American manufacturing production regions for the first time since World War II (although many plants continued operations through1993 when sole ownership by Japanese firms ended). Bartlett was founded in 1836 by Captain John Bartlett, a United States Navy lieutenant. The town was named for Capt. Bartlett's birthplace, Bennington County, Vermont. The first post office in the town was established in 1837. The Illinois Central Railroad reached Bartlett in 1849 and the town became a railroad village. In 1862, General Nathaniel Banks attacked and destroyed Confederate forces at Vicksburg, Mississippi; residents of Bartlett helped to build a road leading from the city to Vicksburg so that troops could be transported there easily. In 1865, General Ulysses S. Grant arrived in Illinois and decided to move his army southward; he ordered the destruction of all railroads between Cairo and St Louis; this caused great Panic among farmers who depended on shipments of goods from those cities. Aftermath of the Civil War had a significant impact on the economy of Bartlett; prices for goods increased 50%, while incomes decreased 20%. In 1870, Captain John Bartlett died at age 74 years and is buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Bartlett.
