Barrington, Illinois is a small town located in the Kane County area of Illinois. The population was 7,818 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The Town of Barrington was organized on February 17, 1847 by men from Knox and other parts of central Illinois to provide for settlers near the then-new west bank of the Chicago River. At first, only men were allowed to settle in Barrington; women and children were not granted citizenship until after Indian Removal in 1865. In 1868 local farmers formed a water district with their own millstream which provided irrigation for all of Kane County as well as supplying drinking water for towns and villages in northeastern Cook County; this system continued until 1925 when it was replaced by municipal water systems. As early as 1871, Barrington had two schools - one elementary (grades K-4) and one high school (grades 5-12). A post office was established in 1882, but it closed briefly due to lack of mail patronage before reopening in 1886 under the name "New Beginnings." In 1907 an annexe was added to the high school - this addition included a library, music room and gymnasium. In 1912 construction began on what would become known as Barrington High School's " Grande Dame" building which cost $625,000 to build and opened in 1915. That same year also saw commencement exercises for what would become known as "The United States Naval Academy" - these exercises led to increased enrollment at Barrington High School from its original students' single digits into double digits over time. That same decade saw significant growth within the community - by 1916 there were five grocery stores, three churches (one Baptist), two hotels/motels (the Riverside Inn & Motel & Restaurant and Park Hyatt), seven auto dealerships/repair shops and fifteen business properties including nine housing units: six residences (three Tudor Revival style bungalows built between 1914-16; two frame houses erected around 1916/17), one modern home built in 1922/23 by Wirt Benson who became headmaster at Northwestern University's Evanston campus; four single family homes constructed c1930s on lands that later became part of Guaranteed Land Corp., now part of Jackson Park while another four homes were completed during World War II: one brick home completed circa 1941 on land donated by Mrs Briggs Healy; three more brick homes constructed 1945-46 following purchase by Harold Crouch Jr.; all are still standing today having been renovated or repainted over time much like their originals did when they were built. A new sports arena called Northern Illinois University Arena opened its doors on November 3rd 2001 making Barrington history once again becoming an affiliate member school alongside The United States Naval Academy with both teams playing against each other annually from 2002 onward through 2017 interlocking Noobs vs Pros matches throughout their hours long tenure! On September 1st 2018 abruptly ends its affiliation agreement with USNA effective November 30th 2018 citing financial reasons though still maintaining open relationships with both programs

Barrington, Illinois is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,581 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago–Naperville–Kankakee Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1873 by Enoch Pratt and his family as a post office on the north side of Barrington Lake. In 1884 it became an incorporated town. The first mayor was Fayette Colfax. In 1945, Barrington began to experience heavy flooding from rains that caused streetcars to stop running on Main Street and other areas due to rising water levels in the river near the town center. A $5 million project was completed to prevent future flooding and improve infrastructure around the community. In 1967, Barrington became one of ten communities within Cook County that were merged into village status with more control over their own affairs and less money from county coffers; however, full voting rights still remain with residents in village form until such time as they decide otherwise. On December 3rd, 2018 it was announced that all but 2% of residents within Village Status will have full voting rights starting January 1st 2021 through 2024 when changes are made to village form which will no longer include military service or certain types of contracts/ties with state government as required for governance within villages now
