Barrington, Illinois is a town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,816 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The town was platted on November 3, 1872 by John Barrington and James Fenton. It named for General George Washington Harrisons brother-in-law, Colonel Nathaniel P. Banks. The first post office in Barrington was established on December 5, 1872. The town developed around the site of what is now the Barrington Mills store complex which opened in 1875 and became a major commercial center for central Illinois until it closed its doors in 1985. The Barrington Mills complex still contains a number of original buildings and has been used as a research center by local colleges and universities since its closure. The community currently rests on the ruins of an old gristmill that was destroyed by fire in 1915 while being used as a storage facility for local farmers during prohibition era; however, due to restoration work done by volunteers over the past few years this mill has once again become active as a functioning community center with cultural events taking place there annually including music concerts and art exhibitions among other things According to the 2010 census, all residents living within walking distance of either elementary or high school were born within 6 miles (10 km) of each other – making it one of the most densely populated towns in McLean County with over 1/3rds of residents living less than 10 miles from their schools

The annexation created an even larger community than before with over 2 miles (3 km) of streets and 2 shopping malls within its borders. On November 5th, 2006, it was announced that KFC would be closing all their restaurants in Illinois starting on December 15th because they were unable to come up with an acceptable business model for themselves after years trying to create one. This left many residents struggling as they had no other sources of income besides food stamps which have been decreasing each year since 2004 according to data from the United States Departmentof Agriculture
