In 1945, General Motors announced plans to establish a car manufacturing plant near Chicago which would employ more than 10% of all workers within 10 years at its peak; auroral lumber had not yet reached its potential as a raw material supplier for this new industry! This surge of business led to renewed development efforts within downtown Aurora as well as growth within adjacent neighborhoods such as Elmwood Park and Oak Lawn Heights- which are now part of Downtown Chicago’s core financial district1 .
