In 1907–08 when Cook County merged with DuPage County, Arlington Heights became one of four towns in DuPage County that were not annexed intoChicago; it remained an independent municipality until 1959 when it joined Chicagos First Ward as one of its wards. On January 1, 1957 – just two years after being annexed into Chicagos First Ward – Arlington Heights established itself as an urban township with a governing body that consisted only of a Mayor and six trustees who each voted on matters pertaining to their ward including zoning ordinances and budgets. On October 15th 2006 City Council approved annexing all but 2% of our town's residents living beyond Jackson Park boundary onto their own city-owned land within borders we had always insisted upon annexation would bring benefits such as better streetscaping which would improve access for cars exiting Jackson Park or other businesses situated thereon giving us much needed revenue stream should annexation be successful tax breaks also become available wink wink
