The population continued to grow until 1960 when it peaked at over 20,000 people again but begandeclining shortly thereafter due to social changes including suburbanization and changing demographics within Cook County overall which intensified during this time period dubbed "the Great Migration". Despite this decline however, Arlington Heights remains one of the most populous villages in Illinois today with over 25K residents according to 2018 census data
