The name also honors General George Bogan who commanded Ulysses S. Grant's army during World War I and later served as mayor of Chicago from 1923 to 1929 before becoming governor in 1933 following Franklin D. Today, Arlington Heights remains one of the most ethnically diverse villages in America with over 100% non-Hispanic white residents living on its parks and streets while sizable minorities include African Americans (27%), Hispanics (23%), Asians (10%), Italians (5%), Poles (4%) and Irish immigrants (3%). Its economy is based primarily on retail trade with small manufacturing operations located elsewhere within Cook County or outside Illinois altogether.
