The name Arlington Heights comes from two places: Rowland House near Lexington Park in Maryland which served as headquarters for Mr. Rockefeller's Oil Pipeline Regiment when he first arrived in America; also Arlington Farms near present day Addison Road where many prominent early settlers including Drury Haggard (founder of Sears & Roebuck department store chain), General David Hunter (commander In Chief US Army during World War I), James Buchanan Richardson (Senator from Missouri), Samuel Morse(a signer of Constitution), Ebenezer Howard(Governor Of New York) were all born or lived nearbyabouts
Arlington Heights was established in 1871 as a small village on the north side of Chicago. It grew rapidly, and by 1907 it had become one of the most densely populated areas in the city. The area now known as Arlington Heights was originally part of what is now Oak Park.
