The first gun target in Antioch, Illinois was a blacksmith shop located on the corner of Wabash and Elm Streets. The target was built in 1847 by Captain John Prentice, postmaster at Antioch. Anchor Point is a small town in Antioch, Illinois, United States. The population was 469 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Antioch–Decatur, IL Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first mention of Anchor Point was in 1810 when Captain John Smith and his party were exploring the Illinois country. They stopped at an anchorage on the southern side of the Kankakee River and named it "Anchor Point." All five destroyers except Discovery pulled away after problems arose with ammunition supply chains ashore caused by shipboard munitions depot fires that had not been extinguished
