Antioch, Illinois is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 20,512 at the 2010 census. Antioch is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. It is bordered to the north by Plainfield Township and to the south and east by Vernon Hills Township. The first Europeans to visit Antioch were French traders from Quebec in 1679 who landed on the Fox River and explored it for trade. The first permanent European settlers in Antioch were Irish Catholic farmers who arrived around 1710. In 1812, Captain John Quincy Adams of USS Constitution discovered what would become Antioch when he passed through that area on his way from Cairo, Egypt to Genoa, Italy. On November 5, 1816 (or November 4), General James Kempton's Ulysses S Grant's army invaded Illinois as part of a larger Union attempt to drive Napoleon out of Europe; this attack resulted in General David Dixon's 3rd Infantry Regiment plus two companies of Mounted Rifles being killed or wounded at Battle of Black Hawk Creek near Nauvoo on October 24th while under cover of darkness; these events are generally considered the beginning of the end for Napoleon Bonaparte’s rule over continental Europe during his reign as Emperor of France (1814-1830). Aftermath: On December 1st Lt.-Gen James Kempton was ordered back across country with all available forces land at Champaign/Urbana after learning about Napoleon’s escape attempt from Elba. Campaign Results: At Blacks Fork creek we encountered Powell’s brigade commanded by Brigadier General John Paulden which fought gallantly under very heavy fire but having no choice but retire leaving their artillery behind them giving us an important advantage till daylight relieved us. By January 9th 1817 our lines had been greatly extended towards Urbana and we began moving our stores forward into camp near Urbana preparatory thereto receiving Ammunition Train which arrived January 15th 1817 From Camp Urbana we moved again towards Springfield under Major-General Shields march orders until reaching Springfield February 6th where we remained until April 11th when Major-General Shields relieved him with orders to return home via Peoria I now give you my report dated April 12 last year Having marched over 110 miles & fought many battles I am much tired both mentally & physically But thank God for your good government & protection

In response to this threat, Antioch's bishop, Timothy Dolan, called for a boycott of Italian-owned businesses in the Diocese until those businesses donated money to help the church financially. After weeks of protests and heated public debate surrounding the matter, on November 3rd2009 bishops from across America gathered at Philadelphia's Presbyterian Cathedral to create a united front against Pell's threats. This event marked an important step forward in solidifying Catholic unity against aggressive tactics by an individualbishop.
Antioch was a small town in the state of Illinois, located on the Mississippi River. Antioch was founded in 1824 by Nicholas Comstock and his family. The town grew rapidly after it was postulated as the site for a new water works project. In 1852, Antioch had a population of 500 people and became an important commercial center on the river. By 1860, Antioch had increased its population to 1,500 people and became an important manufacturing center with an annual output of $5 million. The growth of Antioch led to social unrest in the early 20th century; in 1918, local leaders called for a boycott of city products due to their concerns about poverty and unemployment within the town. In 1922, following a proposal by Mayor Harry Siever that the town invest in land development near Carbondale, Antioch voted against this plan; however, Carbondale later reincorporated as Antioch.
