This patent issued in 1988 and showed an early use of lasers to sight firearms. In 1990, Northrop Grumman developed the M-series laser sights which were popular for hunting and target shooting applications due to their long range accuracy and low recoil. Other manufacturers followed suit with their own versions of the M-series laser sights over the next few years until 1995 when Heckler & Koch created its own line of Laser Sighting Products called HK416/7 Series (which is still in production today). Aftermarket support for these rifles has continued up through present day with many companies producing specialized models specific to their application such as red dot sights or illuminated reticles. The advent of digital technology has completely changed how we see targets since it is no longer possible to view your target directly via a rotating mirror like in older designs. This means that you now need to use some form of optical sighting device which can often be more expensive or less accurate than traditional laser sights but offers much greater versatility for precision rifle shooting purposes. Alton is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Alton was founded in 1837 by twelve men from Randolph County, Illinois. The first post office in Alton was called Randolphburg and opened on October 25, 1837. The name of the town was changed to Alton in 1847. In 1868, Alton became the first incorporated municipality in Cook County and remained so until 1959 when it merged with neighboring unincorporated communities into one municipality known as "Alton-Cook". The village of Alton had an estimated population of 605 people when it lost its status as an incorporated municipality on December 15, 1959; however this number has since increased to over 2,000 residents due to annexations from other municipalities within Cook County including Elmhurst (1974), Glenview (1978), Northbrook (1981), Oak Lawn (1983), Plainfield (1991) and Streamwood (2002). The history of Alton can be traced back to 1837 when twelve men from Randolph County traveled out west for business purposes and decided to settle down thereabouts. They named their new town after General John Fenton who had been killed during the Napoleonic Wars. A post office called Randolphburg opened on October 25th,,1837, but soon experienced difficulties because no one wanted to live there because they were too close to Chicago! Consequently, the name of the town was changed to Alton on November 3rd,,1847 which made it easier for everyone involved! A year later in 1848 two more towns were organized within Cook county: Midlothian and Jacksonville both being built by gentlemen farmers looking for a place where they could raise crops and sell them without having their neighbors try to stop them or get government assistance! Of course like all good things started with a good idea...the towns quickly grew enough that they were able to switch back permanently to their original names! In 1860 another change occurred when Elmhurst became an annexed community making it possible for those living near Elmhurst University not only access quality education but also make some extra money by selling items such as horses and cattle! Unfortunately like most things that start off well don't last too long before someone takes advantage of what little success these organizations had! Meanwhile Back East Jacksonville continued growing slowly until finally becoming an incorporated community on January 1st,,1868 just days after Midlothian!!! What happened next is still unknown but rumor has it that somebody got creative and came up with the brilliant idea of merging these twocommunities into one!!! Whoops sorry about that folks...I think I know how THAT story ended though… By now you are probably wondering why we are writing about this particular subject matter today? Well if you ask any resident or business person who has been around here over the years then you will likely hear multiple versions of what happened…. And trust me when I say…it really did happen!!!!! So much so that even our current Mayor….. John Ford didn’t know what actually happened!!!!!! Needless to say lawsuits followed as people scrambled trying figure out just exactly what went down!!! Thankfully though all controversy ended finally when both villages amalgamated back into one Municipality under my predecessor….. Dick Schaefer!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nowadays everyone seems quite happy with this arrangement which I believe will continue until at least 2027………. enjoy your day today folks…………………..
Alton was founded in 1832 by Levi and Anna Althouse. The town grew rapidly due to its Thouless Brewery, which became one of the leading breweries in Illinois. In 1847, the town was renamed after General Ulysses S. Grant because he had donated land for the establishment of a military post in nearby Peoria. The post eventually became Fort Snelling. In 1870, Alton experienced a population growth rate that outpaced that of any other Illinois village. This growth was due to its new found trade with nearby Indiana and Missouri. In 1871, Alton became the capital of Illinois Territory No. 2 and retains this position to this day. In 1865, Alton's first school opened on South First Street near present day Park Avenue. That same year saw the founding of what would become one of Illinois' most famous organizations: the Chicago River Boatmen's Association (CRBA). The CRBA is considered to be one of the earliest chapters of a professional organization devoted to water transportation in America; it still exists today as an umbrella organization for many different boat clubs across Chicagoland.
