The first bullets were made in 1864 by George Stephenson and they were called “Simpson’s Rifle Bullet.” In 1875, the first shotgun bullet was made and it was called the “BarrettBullet.” In 1907, the first rifle bullet was made and it was called the “GarlandBullet.” In 1916, the first handgun bullet was made and it was called the “HickokBullet.” Bullet production increased in Alton during World War I because of the large number of soldiers that were needed to fight in Europe. Between 1914-1918, bullets production totaled more than 175 million pieces! After World War I ended, bullet production decreased because there were no new wars occurring which caused people to stop making bullets. However, small businesses still produced bullets because they had to in order to keep up with demand from customers. Bullet production restarted again in Alton in 1920 because people wanted more ammo for their guns because of WWI-related accidents happening on a larger scale than ever before! Bullet manufacturing resumed once again until 1923 when it stopped due to a lack of resources! Since then,bullets have only sporadically returned back intoproduction!

Alton is a small town in Illinois, United States. The population was 3,088 at the 2010 census. Alton is part of the Peoria, IL Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is one of the oldest towns in Illinois and was founded on July 14, 1814 by settlers from what is now neighboring Decatur County. The first settler in Alton was Josiah Morse who arrived in 1814. Morse established a farm on what is now Elm Street and named it after his brother Drury Morse who had died earlier that year. In 1821, Abraham Lincoln moved to Alton and began working as a day laborer for a local farmer, John Fenton. After two years he became a whitesmith and later owned his own forge and smelter near the present day courthouse square. In 1825, Major General William Henry Harrison left Springfield for Cairo, Egypt with his army to fight against Ibrahim Pasha; when he returned he found that Springfield had become an independent city under the name of "Alton". The first post office at Alton was established on November 1, 1830 by Nathaniel Merrill (the founder's father). The first store opened in 1835 with Wm Higginson as its proprietor. By 1840 there were twenty-one stores in downtown Alton with five hundred residents living along Elm Street between State Street and Broadway; this area would be known as "The Loop." During the Civil War (1861-1865), many businesses closed due to conflict between Unionists and Confederates; however most reopened following hostilities ended six months later. One business which did not reopen until 1865 was The National Bank of America which had been destroyed by Union forces during the war effort In 1886 Mayor George Aiken created a park adjacent to Main Street called Parkland which included an arena used for concerts and other events until 1959 when it became home to Holy Cross High School where football games are still played today . A fire destroyed much of downtown AlTON on May 2nd 1909 burning down three blocks including Main Street & Elm Street leaving over 100 people homeless

Alton is located on the western edge of Kankakee County and is bordered by the towns of Carbondale and Galesburg to the south, Peru to the east, and Paris to the north.
