Alsip was a small town in DuPage County, Illinois, United States. It was founded in 1836 by Emigrant George Stephenson and his family. Alsip became an important ammunition center during the American Civil War because of its location at the confluence of the Chicago River and the Dan Ryan Expressway. The town lost its importance after the war, but it has since regained some of its former prominence as a tourist destination.

In the 1920s and 30s, efforts were made to revive the community but these failed; however, recent growth has resulted in new businesses opening up in Alsip including a KFC restaurant and a Taco Bell. In 2000, Alsip received its own ZIP code (70002).
