Addison is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 23,752 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest city in Cook County after Chicago and the tenth largest in Illinois. Addison is also one of two cities in Illinois with a metropolitan area (the other being Chicago). The City of Addison was incorporated on November 3, 1868, from part of the village of Lemont. The first settler to come to what is now Addison was John Addis who built a log cabin on the east side of present day Maple Street on October 15, 1779. He named his settlement after George Washington's home state, Virginia. In 1837 when General James K. Polk was President of the United States and surveys were made for new states within Illinois, he recommended that Lemont be merged into Cook County as it had an approved plan for public works and development by then-County Clerk John Kinney On December 5th 1830 Josiah Gregg bought 2 lots near modern day Racine Avenue from David Herron for $27 +$3 per acre payable annually until paid off or until removed by Easement Agreement granted by Judge Thomas Hinds which ran from May 1st 1830 to March 31st 1836 inclusive . This grant allowed Gregg to build a tavern called The Royal American on this site where he could sell food and drink to customers stopping along their way through Lemont or its surrounding villages stops called "The Pearly Gates" Gregg leased this property back to David Herron September 6th 1830 for $26/year with right to renew at annual rate until paid off minus interest plus costs associated with building/maintaining tavern including sidewalks etc... For more than 25 years this property housed many important businesses in Lemont including: Post Office June 8th 1835; Barber shop January 11th 1840; Lumber mill February 15th 1850; Steamboat store April 12th 1860; Blacksmith shop May 10th 1870; Methodist Episcopal Church July 14th 1880; Masonic Lodge October 3rd 1890 - all still standing today! These establishments contributed mucheconomic stability and growth throughout those early days before transportation became available closer to downtownChicago! In 1865 Ulysses S Grant visited Lemont while campaigning for president outside Chicagoand upon His return journeyed south via Elmhurst taking delivery of commodities at The Royal American Tavern before continuing his campaign visit at North Side Hotel later that night where he dined with Lady Grant. Many local residents attended these events providing valuable political knowledge about their community which would be used during his Presidency! In 1893 Republican Grover Cleveland held his inauguration ceremonies inside The Royal American Tavern located just north of current day Racine Avenue

Addison, Illinois was founded in 1833 by George Addison and his wife Catharine. The town was named after John Addison, an English lawyer and politician who served as the Prime Minister of Great Britain from 1778 to 1784. Addison's father, also named George Addison, had immigrated to America in 1771. After a few years in the local land market,George Addison established himself as a merchant and political figure in the new country. In 1811, he married Catharine Lowell, daughter of wealthy American businessman Silas Lowell. They had six children: three sons- Increase (1812-1892), John (1815-1901), and Charles (1817-1900). All five brothers were born into successful families that expanded their businesses across the United States. The early days of Addison were difficult for many reasons including its location on the highly trafficked Route 66 corridor which made transportation challenging and expensive; lack of water resources which led to periodic droughts; and competition from other settlements on both sides of the river which caused some explosions during construction projects. However, through hard work, innovation and determination these settlers managed to make progress despite common challenges. By 1830, addisontown boasted a population of around 100 people with a variety of businesses including gristmills, grocery stores, hotels/motels/laboratories etc., as well as two churches - St Paul's Episcopal Church (founded 1828) and First Baptist Church (founded 1831). Over time howevergrowth slowed due to factors such as changes in patterns of travel or disease which impacted different parts of the United States at different times; economic recession; wars between Great Britain and America; technological advances like railroads which undermined certain aspects of rural life; natural disasters like hurricanes or floods that destroyed homes or farmland etc.; while other settlements grew more rapidly than Addison due to immigration or acquisition by others. In 1861 Abraham Lincoln became president after winning the Ulysses S Grant election landslide victory over Confederate General Robert E Lee.
