Addison is a city in DuPage County, Illinois, United States. It was named for John Addison, 1st Viscount Northumberland. The city was one of the original towns in DuPage County. In 1837 it had a population of just over 100 residents. The first Ammunition Plant in Addison opened on May 15th 1837 by Samuel Morse and Alfred Vail with 7 cannonballs. The plant manufactured musket balls and shot for the use of the militia and other civilians. In 1854, James Mazzini organized a small arms company to produce rifled fire-arms from barrels made of hardwood at his new ammunition factory on Main Street. The first firearms were pistols using the .22 caliber rimfire cartridge which became known as "Mazzini's Model" because it was created by John Mazzini himself. In 1865, Addison Arsenal moved from its original location on West Side Road to what is now Court Avenue where it operated until 1886 when it became an armory depot under the command of General Ulysses S. Grant during the American Civil War under the name "Grant's Armory."
Addison, Illinois is a small town located in the eastern portion of the state of Illinois. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. Addison is one of the oldest towns in Illinois and was founded on December 12, 1824 by white settlers who arrived from Massachusetts. It became a city on November 3, 1907. As of the 2010 census, Addison had a population of 10,898. The first settler to arrive in Addison was Captain John Cutler. He built a log cabin near present-day Park Ridge Road and named it Cutler's Grove after himself and his family. Other early settlers included Benjamin Banneker and his brother Nicholas Banneker. In 1827, Captain John Cutler's son Moses took over leadership of the settlement and began construction on what would become known as "the courthouse." The first building that stood in Addison was an adobe house which served as both courthouse and jail until 1830 when it burned down. In 1832 Colonel James Wilkinson bought 2 acres (1 km2) of land along Cook County Road 122 for $200 from Simon Girty who had donated it to be used as part of an agricultural experiment station run by American Military Academy (USMA). Wilkinson renamed his new land "Addison" after then-Senator Nathanial Greene (now ambassador to Russia). additions were made to this property including a millrace called Clear Creek later renamed Easton Millrace in honor of General George Washington Easton who donated land for this purpose two years before Wilkinson purchased it On July 6, 1836 Hanson Dodge married Anna Maria Goodrich at their home on Clear Creek across from where Easton Millrace now stands. They moved into their own house soon afterwards on what is now Dodge Avenue just east ofpresent day Park Ridge Road In 1840 Matthias Hennepin platted about four miles or six kilometers north northeast of downtown Addison platting out lots for farmsteads he called Norwalk Township which he transferred to Chicago Township when he sold his interest in Chicago in 1847 A post office called Norwalk Township was established at this location on October 24, 1840 under act No 526 Of March 11 Ass’d By The General Assembly Of The United States Of America Thereunto Made And Ordered This Day . . . After only ten months operations there were only six mailbag subscriptions received its entire existence before being discontinued due to lack of customers When railroad access arrived during the mid 1800s trade increased with farmers transporting goods all over central Illinois via railroads clearing away forests so that track could be laid making town development more possible

The village of Addison was organized as a Town in 1837, but it merged with Riverdale on January 1, 1871 to form Addison-Riverdale Township. On December 15, 1881, Addison incorporated as a Village. The current name for Addison comes from George Washington Carver who donated land to be used for agricultural purposes. The first post office at Addison was established on July 26, 1828 and closed on October 14th of that year due to lack of customers. The town's nickname is "The Athens of the Midwest." In addition to its fine architecture and rich history there are many businesses that have thrived because of their relationships with Addisons residents - everything from banks to restaurants has been based here since before incorporation!
