Post Falls, Idaho is a small town located in the Snake River Valley of Idaho. The population was 7,546 at the 2010 census. Post Falls is the county seat of Butte County and lies east of Blackfoot Falls on U.S. Route 97. It is bordered by Butte County to the south, Clearwater County to the west, Kootenai County to the north, and Salmon Arm County to the northwest. The first Post Falls was established in 1855 as a trading post along what is now U.S. Route 97 by wagon train travelers between Blackfoot and Wells Fargo stations in Oregon and California. By 1865, Post Falls had become an important stop on stagecoach routes from Salt Lake City to Las Vegas and points east through Idaho Territory before reaching Deadhorse Canyon in Canada near present-day North Battleford. In 1876, Doniphan Brothers merchants founded a flour mill complex that became one of America’s leading flour mills after acquiring land northeast of Post Falls for their new factory site which they named “Doniphan’s Mill Site” (now known as Doniphan Prairie). The milling industry revived in Post Falls with production increasing rapidly during World War I due to wartime demand for military auxiliary goods such as munitions and engineering materials; however, it gradually declined thereafter because of competition from larger mills located elsewhere in Idaho and Wyoming . In 1959, Doniphan Brothers merged with ALCO Inc., one of America's largest chemical companies; however, only a minor portion of its original plant remains extant today within Doniphan Prairie park adjacent to downtown Post Falls . Today about two-thirds of all production at Doniphan Brothers ceased operations at its peak in 1972 due to newly emerging technologies (commercially available jet fuel) that made manufacturing more efficient than ever before while reducing waste product instances; however research & development continues at various locations including don biphasic fluid catalytic converters producer located just outside city limits
