Post Falls, Idaho is a small town in the U.S. state of Idaho. The population was 1,906 at the 2010 census. Post Falls is located in Sawtooth National Forest and is known for its crystal clear waterfalls, as well as its artesian wells that provide clean water to many locals and businesses. The name "Post Falls" originated from a post office on the banks of the Salmon River which served the town until 1964. The history of Post Falls begins with pioneers who journeyed westward in 1875 during what would be called the Oregon Trail. They were looking for a place to build their new homes and found an ideal spot on the confluence of two rivers, just east of present-day Post Falls. In 1876, they named their new settlement after General Anthony Wayne, who had recently led American forces against Mexican forces at Battle of Bannockburn in Scotland. The first inhabitants of Post Falls were farmers and their families who began moving into the community in 1919 when it was established as an unincorporated village under the jurisdiction of Sawtooth National Forest. By 1941, Post Falls had reached its peak population with over 2,000 residents living in 158 homes; however, by 1945 it had shrunk to just over 100 people due to World War II rationing and other military activity across central Idaho. In 1951, when Sawtooth National Forest was created within it by Congress through act (2 Stat 3293), Post Fall's status changed from unincorporated village to municipal district under local government control with responsibility for building schools and providing services such as firefighting and policing within sawtooth national forest boundaries. The following year saw another rapid growth period with nearly 400 residents relocate to Post Fall between 1951-1957 due primarily to industrial development along Interstate 80 north of town including several quarries that supplied granite for postcards and other products sent throughout America During this time various public works projects were completed such as widening State Route 12 (now Interstate 80) which ran through town center along today's Main Street; construction of both an elementary school (opened in 1954) and a high school (opened 1957) followed; while also creating or expanding numerous civic organizations including one focused on youth leadership development In 1975 District No 10 was created within Sawtooth National Forest surroundingPostFall resulting in even more rapid growth with 2,500 residents relocated during that decade alone Due largely to advances made during previous decades such as expanded highway access via I-80/US 101A southbound concurrent operation leading directly into downtowns neighboring towns jobs opportunities became available making life much easier for working class citizens struggling against difficult odds day & night Today there are still many active civic organizations taking careof everythingfrom maintaining infrastructure allthe way up To running elections season long
