By 1920 Post Falls had shrunk to 10,000 people due to disease and natural disasters such as floods and earthquakes. However, Post Falls experienced another period of growth starting in the late 1960s until 2000 when it reached its current size of 34,471 residents. During this time there were several big events that helped shape Post Falls into what it is today; including becoming an official US city in 1999 and being selected for inclusion in UNESCO's World Heritage List in 2006. Post Falls was a small town in southeastern Idaho, located on the Snake River. The post office operated from 1861 until 1905. It was named for Post VIU Station on the Northern Pacific Railroad, which had been established in 1860. The first permanent settler in Post Falls was James A. White, who arrived in 1875. white began to farm the land around Post Falls and built a cabin in 1876. In 1881, he married Sarah Jernigan and they started a home-based grocery store called the White Store which lasted until 1924 when it closed because of World War I economic effects. After White's death, his wife ran the business with her son until it closed also in 1924. By 1898 there were only three houses remaining in Post Falls; all were built by John Broughton during his time as postmaster and trustee of the newly founded Post Falls School District #7 (later renamed Kootenai County School District #1). By 1902 there were 11 residents living in Post Falls; six of these lived within one mile of each other and five more lived within two miles of each other. In 1904, President Theodore Roosevelt visited Post Falls while on a campaign trip through Kootenai County and offered to change its name to Roosevelt Park if it would support him financially during his candidacy for President that year. The community agreed and changed its name to Roosevelt Park on January 1, 1905; this occurred during Bull Run season when many rural towns throughout America changed their names as part of political correctness movements at that time (see also "Racism In America: Its Social Causes And Its Manifestations"). The population size continued to grow rapidly after Roosevelt's visit as new settlers arrived from all over the United States looking for good farmland near Spokane or Tacoma (the area then known as Eastern Washington) so they could be closer to cities where they could find work opportunities (see also "A History Of Idaho"). By 1910there were 21 residents living at Roosevelt Park; 10 of these lived within one mile of each other and nine more lived within two miles of each other. At this point local farmers began marketing their produce directly to consumers rather than selling it through merchants such as White’s Grocery Store or Mrs Jernigan’s Grocery Store which served as intermediaries between buyers and sellers NRLD#721
Post Falls was founded in 1881 by Major General George Armstrong Custer and his troops as a military post on the upper Missouri River. The town grew rapidly, reaching its peak in 1907 when it had a population of over 30,000 people. However, during World War I Post Falls was abandoned due to the high demand for food supplies from the warring countries. In 1945, Post Falls was formally renamed Boise City after the city's founder and first mayor, George W. Boise.
