Mills was instrumental in bringing about what we now know as downtown Post Falls; he built what is currently known as First National Bank on Main Street in 1908 and also started or greatly assisted with building such prominent buildings as Stonington Methodist Episcopal Church (1910), Masonic Lodge No. 4 (1911), and American Legion Hall (1920). These institutions have since become integral parts of Post Falls's history and culture which can be seen throughout much of its downtown area today including many restaurants, bars, shops, etc., making it one of Americas' most vibrant communities! In 1928 Hugh Laughlin established Laughlin Printing & Printers which still stands today as one of the largest printing companies in North America with more than 350 employees worldwide! Post Falls, Idaho is a small town located in Sawtooth County, Idaho. The population was 2,554 at the 2010 census. Post Falls is home to the namesake post office and several other local government buildings. The name of the town comes from a falls on the Salmon River. In 1883, Post Falls became an incorporated village under the name of Postville. The first post office in Post Falls was established on December 10, 1883. The first mail carrier arrived here on horseback on November 13th! The first postmaster was H C Morse. In 1907, the railroad came to Post Falls and changed everything! As the town grew it needed more services so a new school was built in 1912 and another church was built in 1916-17. A hospital opened in 1922 and also a fire station in 1927-28 (the only one east of Boise). In 1946, Post Falls became an urban area when it annexed by Boise City limits; however, due to its rural character it retains many of its historic landmarks such as Route 16A which bisects downtown and routes 14A/B which run along State Street between Main Street and 7th Avenue North (now called I-5). Post Falls was founded in 1877 by James Post and his family. The town was named for the falls that ran through it. The Post family operated a sawmill and gristmill in the town until 1904. In 1909, the Post family donated land to build a post office, which was completed in 1911. The first postmaster was Lillian A. Post. The town had a population of around 100 people in 1912 and grew to over 300 people by 1922. The post office closed in 1951 and the town stopped growing. It has since fallen apart and its residents have moved away or died off. Today, there is only an old graveyard behind the town hall which provides some clues about Post Falls' past.
