In 1949, the town charter was amended to provide for a police department and in 1953, the town voted to erect a local jail which would serve as both police department Headquarters and Jail until 1971 when it was replaced by the current Sheriff’s Office Building on State Street. Throughout these years, gun safes continued to be used as either Municipal Headquarters or Jail facilities for Post Falls residents however they never ceased being popularly used as personal storage items for individuals within the community. In 1984, after over fifty years service as Municipal Headquarters and Jail facility for Post Falls citizens, it closed its doors permanently due to budget cuts but has been preserved as a historical site still serving as an important resource for locals and tourists alike today!

Post Falls, Idaho is a town in Butte County, Idaho, United States. The population was 3,873 at the 2010 census. Post Falls is the county seat of Butte County. The name "Post Falls" was given to the falls by General John Custer on his march from Yellowstone National Park to the Little Bighorn Battlefield in 1876. The post office opened in 1881 and continued in operation until it was discontinued in 1959. The first store built in Post Falls was a hardware store operated by Wm. Hickey and Bros. It closed around 1910 because of competition from other stores opening up in the area. A blacksmith shop also operated briefly before becoming defunct around 1912 due to competition from Hardware Store #1 which had open since 1909. In 1916 a sawmill and lumberyard were built along with several frame houses that housed local farmers during World War I (1914-18). After the war, many local families moved away as industry began to decline throughout Butte County during the 1920s and 1930s; however, there remained several small businesses active until around 1950 when most businesses became defunct or were sold off to larger rivals within weeks of their openings. In 1958 Post Falls amalgamated with nearby Hayden City to form what is now known as Butte County.[3] In 1968 a fire destroyed much of downtown Post Falls leaving only one building remaining standing: The State Capitol Building which still stands today (alongside two smaller government buildings). That same year saw another large fire ravage portions of neighboring Hayden City resulting in damage totaling $2 million including replacement windows for over 130 homes and six businesses destroyed or badly damaged including an ice cream parlor which collapsed onto its customers below after sustaining $5,000 worth of damage].[4] On July 5th 1969 residents staged an attempted coup d'état against then Mayor Harry Aiken following allegations made against him by citizens who claimed he had not done enough for their community while he resided outside of town limits while he enjoyed high salaries paid by butting into city coffers while city services were contracted out to more expensive suppliers within town limits].[5] However no such actions took place as no formal charges could be filed and Aiken returned home shortly thereafter after being called back into action following yet another major fire that burned through entire Hayden City just days prior; this time destroying over 80 homes and businesses including an insurance company building that stood tall despite claiming $100,000 in damages],[6]Post Falls experienced some resurgence starting about 1990-2000 when many new housing developments began popping up all throughout downtown followed quickly by restaurants and bars filling up with locals looking for something new outside of what had been available previously; however again redevelopment slowed down somewhat starting about 2004 when development opportunities dwindled once again due to increasing taxes levied on commercial properties within townlimits leading some landlords/business Owners deciding not to extend leases anymore given how much rent they would have to pay every year regardless of any growth or progress made) Since 2000 there has been sporadic protests organized annually on anniversary date(s) related specifically to issues faced within Post Falls such as low wages/low benefits offered by government contractors working within townlimits), lack of affordable housing options available (often concentrated near downtown), increased crime rates (+ often involving alcohol consumption amongst young people), rising water bills (+ affects nearly every household), recent cuts madeto funding for various programswithin townlimits – typically impacting seniors & low income residents disproportionately[/7].
