Post Falls, Idaho is a small town located in the Northwest corner of the U.S. state of Idaho. The population was 2,391 at the 2010 census. Post Falls is part of the Boise metropolitan area and its economy relies on agriculture and manufacturing. The first white settler in what is now Post Falls was J.D. Grewal, who arrived in 1875 from Illinois. Grewal named his land "Post Falls" after his home town, which he had seen on a map while traveling through the Great Western Railroad company's territory east of present day Boise City. The early Post Falls settlers were pioneer farmers who grew wheat, oats, potatoes, corn and other vegetables for local markets and sold their products to travelers along the Oregon Trail or by train to Walker's Ferry on the Snake River; both points being over 100 miles from Post Falls at that time. In 1881, Wm Hargrave opened a store in Post Falls which became one of the most successful businesses in town until it closed its doors in 1907 due to prohibitionism and World War I flu pandemic hysteria; however, Grewal's memory lives on as an engraving on an archived building still visible today near Main Street: "Hargrave & Son post falls." In 1902 A&P grocery store opened near what is now University Avenue with subsequent expansions into all manner of retail outlets throughout downtown including a movie theater (1936), department stores (1948-1970), light industrial (1974-present), and finally an office complex known as The Gateway Center which contains shopping malls such as Walmart Supercenter (2006) and Enterprise Outlet mall (2008). Today, Downtown Post Fall has become one of the most vibrant business districts in northwest Idaho with many restaurants/bars/cafes/markets open late into the night offering excellent value for your money! During World War II much activity took place within downtown Post Fall due to government contracts awarded by Bendix Aircraft Corporation; this included production lines for Pratt & Whitney Model UP engines for military bombers such as Boeing 727s and Republic P-47 fighters; together these productions resulted in numerous new jobs for locals not only during wartime but also post-war years when demand increased for aircraft parts etc.; some examples are: engine builder Wernher Kappelhof (& Sons); airplane parts distributor John Fenton(later McDonnell Douglas); machinist George Muhlenkamp (& Sons); truck driver Red Burger (#5477); plastics installer Harry Schmidt (& Sons) among others In 1951 The Gateway Center was completely destroyed by fire resulting from faulty wiring during remodeling project; fortunately no injuries occurred however it caused extensive damage to several storefronts inside which remain vacant today despite offers from developers over the years to convert them into apartments or commercial properties etc.; nonetheless many valuable architectural elements were lost forever including: original staircases leading up to upper floors; doorways leading out onto University Avenue; original window frames etc., leaving just a few remaining remnant items from that once thriving business district . . . After nearly fifty years since its heyday downtownPostFall experienced yet another resurgence beginning around 2006 when several redevelopment proposals were made but ultimatelynone materialized owing largely to changing economic conditions around those times i .e.: high energy prices reducing Demand for goods & services produced within city limits}; however things later changed again when Leadville real estate mogul Rob Siltanen announced plansto redevelop Old Town Square adjacent to Interstate 85 w/ potential hotel amenities & retail uses} resultingin significant community opposition associated with concerns about traffic congestion & sprawl;} however Siltanen eventually withdrew his plans after public outcry}.
