They named their settlement "Pocatello", after their hometown in Germany where they had been born into a Lutheran family some years earlier. By 1932, there were over 100 people living in Pocatello. A post office was established at Pocatello on November 1st, 1932 by order of Governor Harry Laughlin with Wm Hetzel as firstpostmaster The early days of World War II were difficult for Pocatello as many residents enlisted to fight overseas or did not have enough money to go on leave home; however most residents supported the war effort with donations or through services such as feeding soldiers and setting up supply lines during Battlefields Europe . On July 15th 1944 German bombers bombed Locust Creek Road killing twenty five people including six children ages four to eight months old who were playing near their house; this event made headlines all over America A memorial has been erected at Locust Creek Road bearing both names (David Denny Memorial Park & Pemmican Tire Company Museum) which pays homage to those lost during World War II including those that died from bombing raids which hit our town specifically . The first post office in Pocatello was established on December 12, 1877, and served until May 24, 1880. The first store in Pocatello was built on Main Street by J.C. Carlson. The first school was organized in 1888 and taught by Mrs. Anna Lantzinger. A public square was platted in 1890 and renamed "Municipal Square" in honor of Mayor Geo Hutton and members of the City Council who helped finance its construction. In 1907, a new water tower was completed northeast of town on Depot Road for use by residents with private wells that were not connected to the main water supply system yet subject to contamination from nearby mines or rivers which flowed through town limits into the river just east of town near where Today's courthouse sits . That same year also saw construction begin on what would later become known as Memorial Stadium which hosted both American football (the first national championship game) as well as wrestling (a popular sport at that time).
