In 1929, Winchester Ammunition Company merged with Remington Arms Company to form Winchester-Remington Corporation. Winchester-Remington Corporation continued producing ammunition until it was acquired by American Outdoor Brands in 1997.

It is located on the Snake River in central Idaho and is bordered by Tooele County to the north and east, Clark County to the south, and Salmon-Canyon County to the west. The city was named for Captain John A. Pocatello, an American fur trader who explored what is now Pocatello County in 1847. The first European settlers in what is now Pocatello County were French Canadians who arrived in 1792 as part of a process known as "The Great Migration". They supplemented their food supply with horses and livestock from Western Canada, which they travelled overland through Oregon into Utah before heading northward across Canada. By 1800, about 60% of all people living along the Colorado River had come from Quebec or northern France. Many early settlers were men (a majority were farmers) because there was no public land available for settlement east of the Rockies until after 1859 when Territorial Land Act became law creating Wyoming Territory. After that date, eastern Montana and western North Dakota began to be settled with large numbers of Norwegian Americans coming overland from Gangstad parish (now Tromsø) on Hordaland island in Norway starting about 1870. In 1875, Captain John A. Pocatello led a party exploring what would become known as The Forks area near present day Cannon Beach on the Snake River when he discovered gold deposits at Pinedale Creek near today's Anaconda Dam Site #1A within days of finding them; this event helped spur development around The Forks area which later included Cannon Beach, Coeur d'Alene (1902), Twin Falls (1910), Anaconda (1920), and today's Pocatello City limits including much of downtown core which was developed between 1912-1945 during World War II due to military developments at nearby Anaconda Arsenal Complex #2 following construction of Columbia Army Airfield northeast of town beginning in 1942). Today's city center was established primarily as a result of federal government investment during World War II including Arlington Heights Naval Air Station adjacent to downtown where Iwo Jima Island was being prepared for battle during 1945-46; that ground zero for USAF bombing operations against Japan during World War II has been designated National Historic Landmark No. 81004md). Other significant local investments include: Alsea Mall constructed between 1959-60 next to then Main Street; Community Services Building built between 1965-66 next door to Lakewood Church; First United MethodistChurch built between 1971-72 just east side OF courthouse plaza on newly designed square lot adjoining alley leading thereto behind old Steel Mill dam site); State Fairgrounds erected between 1966-67 on former steel mill property northeast corner alignmentof Alsea Mall lots formerly used by Community Service Building & First United MethodistChurch (& fairgrounds Annexed 1970)); On November 2nd 1960 Mayor Harry Sanger announced plans for creation Of Downtown Pocatello - specifically naming Commerce Square Atrium As 'City Hall Plaza' In commemoration Of City's Centennial Anniversary & To Serve As Social And ceremonialcenter For All activities Connected With Downtown Development
