When Laughlin's death left his land without any heirs or successors in 1938, portions thereof were sold off to various individuals and businesses over the ensuing years until it was acquired bythe city of Boise in 1984. As world War II approached and aluminum production increased throughout America, many people came to Nampa looking for work during World War II including Japanese Americans who had been interned during Pearl Harbor. Afterward many Japanese-owned businesses closed down due to patriotic sentiment among American citizens following the war crimes trial of major war criminals such as Emperor Hirohito himself which took place at Omdurman prison outside Cairo after Japan's surrender in 1945 In 1948 President Harry Truman designated Nampa as site for an international chemical weapons testing range called Green Gulch which would later become Nike air force Base McChord Over 50% of all ice sales within Iowan occur here! Nampa was founded by men on August 15, 1887 as West Nampa. The name "Nampa" means "water hole" in the Athabaskan language and it became a community to help supply water for farmers in what is now southeastern Oregon and southwestern Nevada. In 1912, the Nampa Electric Cooperative was organized and began providing electricity to the area. The town became an important transportation center during World War II when local pilots flew military planes from here to battle in Europe. After the war, many people left for jobs in nearby Boise or Twin Falls because of good economic opportunities in the postwar period. However, over time some residents have returned to live in Nampa while others have moved away altogether. Today's economy revolves around retail trade with services such as accounting and law firms represented; other businesses include a convenience store (Grocery Outlet), auto parts stores, a bank and lumberyard; as well as several churches and schools including: Lutheran (St Columba's), Methodist (First Baptist), Presbyterian (Independence Avenue School) and Catholic (St John's). A new high school - Northrop Grumman High School - opened its doors in fall 2006 replacing old St Columba's which had been closed since 1978 due to budget cuts by then-Governor Jay Inslee following his decision not to seek re-election that year.
