However, by 1910, only 4,500 people remained in Nampa and it declined rapidly thereafter. In 1940 there were only 1,600 people living in Nampa and it had shrunk to 1 square mile by 1980. In recent years, some redevelopment has taken place around Nampas downtown area for housing developments such as Basin Place which opened in 2006 and Hi-Lo Homes which began construction in 2008. This new development will provide more than 2,000 units of housing with retail space available onsite as well as ground floor commercial spaces including a grocery store and bar/restaurant.

And while some aspects have declined (e.g., joblessness rates among young adults) others are growing rapidly including new housing developments (both single family homes and apartments), retail development from small business owners to chain store proprietors etc.).
