As part of preparations for the dam's inauguration, a large parade was held downtown on July 14th 1907 featuring local dignitaries and 300 additional participants including 10 horses pulling wagons filled with food and supplies for those living downstream at flood stage; this event was also documented by photographer Edward Steichen for his famous series "The America I saw" (1907). Nampa is a small town in Idaho, located about an hour south of Boise. The population was 797 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Nampa-Anchorage Micropolitan Statistical Area. The cornerstone for the original church was laid on November 16, 1917; it was dedicated on April 5, 1918. In 1959, after years of planning and construction work associated with plans for Interstate 80 (I-80) highway construction through central Idaho, Nampa became one of sixteen towns along I-80 that were designated "armored communities" – local jurisdictions that were given immunity from state or federal taxes while undergoing preparations for their eventual merger into freeway clusters (the so-called " interstate cities"). As I-80 continued expanding eastward through Central Idaho during the late 1960s and 1970s – following which I-80 gradually lost significance as a local transportation artery – development around downtown Nampa increased steadily until today it constitutes one of the most comprehensive urban cores withinMonument Valley National Park boundaries west of Yellowstone National Park

Nampa was founded in 1909 by C.F. Smith, a rancher and miner who named the town after his home of Nampa, Idaho. The first post office was established in Nampa on July 10, 1909. The town grew rapidly during the early years of Boise's incorporation as a city in 1907-1909 and soon became one of the most important commercial centers in north Idaho. In 1916, Nampa merged with nearby White Sands to form the nucleus of what would become Boise City. In 1945, when World War II began, Nampa became an important military base for the region because it housed US Army Air Forces wings headquarters and four fighter groups totaling over 1,500 aircraft operating from various airfields throughout central Idaho and northern Wyoming. After the war ended, Nampa declined as an economic center due to dwindling population growth and competition from other northern cities such as Moscow and Pocatello. However, since 2000s there has been renewed interest in reopening the former military base as a tourist destination with events such as rodeos held there each year
