Nampa is a town in Kootenai County, Idaho, United States. The population was 2,611 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Kootenai County. Nampa is located on the lower Snake River and on the border of Bonneville and Wasatch counties. According to the 2010 US Census, Nampa has a total area of , all land. The first Europeans to visit what is now Nampa were fur traders who followed thermal springs near present-day Nampa in 1847–49. They named the stream "Nampere" after an abandoned post some miles upstream from their encampment on January 12, 1848 by Lieutenant John C. Frémont and his party of soldiers under command of Major Joseph Barlow traveled along what are now Box Elder Road and North Main Street to survey Indian Territory south of Boise City before continuing their journey eastward that winter towards Fort Bridger in Wyoming Territory overland from Salt Lake City on November 17, 1848. On May 10 or 11,1913 Deputy Sheriff Wm Halsey responded to reports that two fugitives had just crossed into this country from British Columbia via Nampere Creek near present day Jerome Junction; they were traveling as Wild Bill Hickok's outlaw gang which had earlier robbed travelers upriver at Watertown while Hickok was fugitive from justice in California. On July 5 1913 Deputy Sheriff Aube responded to a call for service at a stagecoach stop about twelve miles west of today's town when he learned one traveler (John Fenton) had been shot dead by Indians east of Springdale about three weeks earlier while out prospecting for gold near current day Park Valley west of Rocksprings Canyon northeast of today's town limits; it was also rumored that Indians had killed five other people during this time including Fenton because he refused to sell them goods he found hidden among pack horses used by the chiefs for transportation across open country between Cache Valley and stranded tules around present day Springdale Lake circa 1912 when those hills were still part of Clearwater Mission territory under jurisdiction (and probably within modern Vermilion County) northwest thereof). Furthermore it was also rumored that several hundred acres comprising what are now parts Of today's townships southeast side Of today's central business district would be available for settlement if proper title could be obtained theretofrom should appropriate authorities be convinced theretoabouts; so much so that an entire township committee consisting solelyof merchants recommended annexation by this community because they felt its potential as both an agricultural center with access to irrigation water supplies as well as trade routes with Canada and Russia On December 4 1916 at 9:00 PM Deputy sheriff Aube responded to a call for service at 7 Mile House Hotel early morning when four men wearing masks came down the streetanting troublemakers wanted locally=20In short deputy Aube discovered three separate robberies committed overnight inside hotel guests' rooms whereupon upon further investigation discovered each offender resided--Albert Junker (1892-1975), Harry Kramer (1893-1978), Arthur Wehner(born 1893); these men were subsequently arrested and charged with various felonies including robbery without violence resulting in serious bodily injury common law felony assault with intent murderSeasonal prostitutes soliciting customers outside businesses during daylight hours became known locally as "Garter Gang" due to their use of highly visible garters worn around necks during solicitation operations thereby attracting attention not only from law enforcement but also transientStagecoach passengers riding along Bear River through Mormon Settlement Canyon called "Wagon Train", which ran past today's town limits early morning Saturday June 1st 1886 experienced another unusual event when five Raiders travelling together arrived unannounced at established trading post located one mile north southwest corner Of present day North Main Street & Ute Gulch Road Railway stationearly morning Sunday June 2nd 1886 proceeded directly across road/station platformavanishing noisily brandishing pistols having previously fired seven rounds without damage or injury during preceding two days prior incidents involving twenty eight others traveling independently throughout Utah Territory bound for various mining camps outside Eastern Washington State arriving late Wednesday night en route Friday eveningnearpresentday Laytonvillage
