Nampa is a town in Idaho, United States. The population was 4,986 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Nampa-Cedar Creek Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in what is now Nampa was Jens Rasmussen on April 1, 1868. Rasmussen and his family homesteaded on the east side of Cedar Creek. He named their farm Nampa after the headwaters of that creek. In 1870 Jens married Emma Christensen from Sweden and together they had six children: Lars (1872–1958), Ole Pedersen (1875–1957), Maren (1877–1945), Lauridsen (1880–1967), John Gaultney Rasmussen Jr. (1882–1971) and Mette Else Rasmussen (1884–1973). In 1887 Rasmussens son John Gaultney Rasmussen Jr., age 15, with his pregnant wife, Hilda Aabye Olsen, journeyed down the Snake River to Boise to purchase land for themselves and their families near what is now Nampa City Limits but instead arrived at Fort Hall which was then under US military jurisdiction due to its strategic location between Boise and Fort Bridger on the Boise River. They were turned back by Indian agents but made it all the way across country before finally reaching Boise on November 5th when they were apprehended by US soldiers at Ruby Canyon about 7 miles south of today's town limits just south of Red Rock Lake whereupon Hilda gave birth to them without further incident; she later died in infancy while still within US military boundaries as required by law according to her husband’s wishes – an event that has been celebrated annually since then as Thanksgiving Day in Nampa. John Gaultney Rasmussen Sr.'s death left four children aged 16 or younger - Lauridsen, MetteElse Rasmussen/Rasmussen (b 1899-d 1984), John Gaultney Rasmussen III/John Gaultney Rassetzhofer IV/Jorge Alberto Romo (b 1907-d 1989) - without any legal authority to succeed him as proprietor or head of household so each took up residence with his parents until 1916 when mining operations along Cedar Creek brought enough money for them all to purchase their own land commencing settlement around 1917 northeast of where they had been living earlier that year; this included extending into present day Cresent Hills northward past today's city limits into what is now known as "Norris".
