The town's first gunsmith was George Huggins and he continued to work on firearms until 1907. In 1927, the ammo store opened in Nampa and began selling ammunition for guns. In 1955, the first handgun was sold in Nampa.

It is the county seat of Nampa County and the largest city in Nampa County. The first European encounter with Nampa took place on July 16, 1847 when Capt. John C. Beck attempted to trade goods with local natives during his survey of what is now Nampa Valley. On October 29, 1851, wagon train MS 4 (the Dalles Canyon Expedition) founded by Brigham Young and James Fenton passed through Nampa on their way from Salt Lake City toCalifornia via Oregon Pass. In 1886, George Washington Lewis surveyed what are now the eastern boundaries of Nampa Valley and recommended that it be divided into two townships: North and South Townships. The idea for a town was suggested to General Oliver O’Neill by Deputy Sheriff John Gorman while he was patrolling the area around Homestead Springs in 1888-89. O’Neill approved of Lewis’s plan but never made it Happen due to his death less than one year later at age 49 from an unknown cause at Fort Bridger west of Boise where he had been garrisoned as part of Ulysses S Grant’s army during the Mexican-American War It wasn't until 1909 when Jens Hansen sold 640 acres (2 km²) off northern edge of present day downtown Nampa for $1 per acre ($10/ha). This 1/4 mile wide strip included most or all of downtown today's Nampa valley before becoming developed open land known as Hansen's Gulch which runs east-west across center city blocks bounded by First Street on the north; 3rd Avenue on the south; State Street on the east; and Broadway on the west In 1916 Hapgood Brothers began building Ralston Methodist Episcopal Church which became home for many people including future mayors Myron Easley and Donnie Weiser as well as other notable citizens such as engineer Harry Emerson Fosdick who designed key civic features like Interstate 84 which opened up much history hereabouts soon after - including a stoplight still working today near current First & Broadway streets cornering State Finally completed in 1948 were additions to western side rear lot forming new Jackson Park neighborhood complete with City Hall Annex – one block northeast corner First & Broadway Streets opposite former Methodist church site
