The first red dot SightMaster was purchased in 1907 by Mr. and Mrs. John Wiegand, who lived on the same property as the current Northrop Grumman Air Force Base. They used it to sight a cannonball during a NRA meeting at their home. In 1959, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Carlson bought a Red Dot Model A1911 Pistol Sight from the National Rifle Association (NRA). It is still in use today at NRA meetings across America, as well as at other events where target sights are needed. In 1975, another Red Dot pistol sight was purchased from Mr. Carlson by OSBI (Oregon State Bureau of Investigation) for use on their weapons training exercises which were conducted in the wilds of eastern Oregon. Red Dot pistolsights continue to be used by law enforcement agencies all over the United States today and into the future!

Mountain Home is an unincorporated community located in Southeastern Idaho, United States. It was first settled in 1887 by the Carson family. The town was named for John C. Carson, a rancher and local official who helped found the nearby city of Boise. In 1907, Mountain Home became the county seat for Butte County, and remained so until 1959 when Boise took over that role. At its peak, Mountain Home had a population of around 1,500 people and was a center of culture and commerce in southeastern Idaho. By the early 21st century, however, it had fallen largely out of public view due to its remote location and lack of infrastructure. However, some efforts are underway to revive the community as a tourist destination or research center for history enthusiasts.
Mt. Home was the home of the first white people to live in what is now Mountain Home County, Idaho. The town was founded by Captain James Hance in 1868, and soon became a thriving community with a population of around 100 people. In 1872, Hance and his family moved to what is now Boise, Idaho and started a new town called Post Falls. By 1876, Post Falls had eclipsed Mountain Home as the largest town in Idaho. In 1887, the Dominion Pacific Railroad came through Mountain Home and began transporting goods from Boise to points east. This led to an increase in business for the town and its merchants, which also caused a growth in their population. By 1907, post office officials had decided that it was time for Post Falls to become its own city and renamed it after Mount Home – one of the largest mountains in North America at that time. Through all these years, however, mountain homes continued to be important symbols of local identity and history within our community. They still persist today as part of our cultural heritage – something we take seriously!
