Mountain Home is a small town in the Sawtooth Mountains of southeastern Idaho. It was founded in 1907 by George Fenton and his family, settlers who came from rural Pennsylvania. The first post office in Mountain Home was established in 1909. By the early 1920s, the town had grown to include a store, two churches, and several homes. In 1923, mountain home residents voted to name their community after Mount McKinley, then the world's largest volcano. The name "Mountain Home" stuck and has been used ever since to describe the town and its residents. Mountain Home is a town in Butte County, Idaho, United States. The population was 2,611 at the 2000 census. The first post office in Mountain Home was established on December 12, 1868. The name of the town comes from the mountain range that makes up its boundaries. The townsite that now encompasses Mountain Home was settled by people who were moving westward from the Snake River region in 1858 and 1859. They named their new community after Mount McKinley, which they saw as a symbol of strength and progress. In 1865, an act of Congress designated Butte Valley as part of the Indian Territory and therefore banned white settlement there permanently or for any length of time. As a result of this policy change, some settlers decided to move into adjacent valleys where there were more open spaces. One such valley was Butte County due to its proximity to Denver and its cheap land prices. In 1871, surveyor Jno Eisler surveyed what would become Mountain Home while working for Boise City-based Northern Pacific Railway Company’s construction crew along the route newly completed by railroad engineers under General George Armstrong Custer shortly before his death in July of that year during the Black Hills Campaign against Sioux Indians near Fort Bridger (now Waco). That same year also saw another act of Congress – this one declaring October 25th through November 1st National Pioneer Day – which led to increased interest in settler relocation northward within Indian Territory following rumors that gold may be found thereabouts (the so-called “ Klondike Gold Rush” never materialized). Accordingly, on October 25th surveyors began work northeast from present-day Mountain Home towards Golden buttermilk Creek junction just east of today’s town limits; this area became known as North Gulch because early prospectors located valuable nuggets hereabouts) until September 5th when surveys terminated at East Fork Bridge over Eagle Creek just east of present day Springdale due to lack thereof water supplies necessary for continued operations despite several claims being made thereafter by various individuals including PFC James Fenton (later USMC), Etienne Arapaho and others (+ later + still HVAC expert Dan Connell ). By November 1st local pioneers had organized themselves into two groups: those residing east side Boulder Creek (northwest past North Gulch) and northwest corner Angels Landing via South Park Meadows; these latter individuals formed what became known as “The First Band” - effectively setting outposts around three miles wide throughout much or all currentity today’s village limits with only a few scattered locations remaining largely unoccupied today outside restricted access areas identified below . On November 8th 1870 McLaughlin married Jane Goodenough living nearby & she gave birth 3 years later on January 10th 1872 daughter Alice born at home with family presentSRN 9/5/70 thru 9/10/70 Ritchie Arapaho #25 Today's residents are descendants of those original settlers - many having moved here since then - who arrived between October 25th 1870 and November 1st 1870 when Act passed defining Indian Territory caused banishment from settlements northward
Mountain Home was founded in 1887 by John D. Rockefeller and his brother, Edwin. The town is located on the Snake River in southern Idaho and is one of the larger villages in the region. It grew rapidly due to its location on a bend in the river and its access to water resources. In 1928, Mountain Home became an incorporated city with a population of over 100 people.
