Mountain Home is a small town in Iron County, Idaho, United States. The population was 2,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Boise metropolitan area. The history of Mountain Home goes back to 1881 when David Kapp and his wife Emma journeyed fromIdaho Falls, Idaho to find refuge from the Mormon polygamy crisis in Utah. They founded a small log cabin on the banks of the Snake River near what is now Mountain Home. After their arrival, they became pioneers and built many more log cabins and homes throughout the area until 1949 when they sold their land to become a city. In 1954, Mountain Home merged with nearby Pocatello to form a combined city-county government under the name of Boise City. In 1978, Boise City severed its ties with Pocatello and formed its own government under the name of Boise County which remains today as one of America's most populous counties by population. From 1978 through 2000, Mountain Home had an annual municipal budget that averaged $5 million dollars ($106 million dollars in 2017 dollars). This amount has not changed since then as all municipal spending within Boise City limits is funded through general fund revenue (taxes) rather than bond sales or special assessments like those associated with larger cities such as Boise or Meridian. Mountain Home's rich history can be found throughout its downtown core which was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1968 for its significant contribution to American West culture during both World War II and postwar years. In addition to this designation, Downtown Mountain Home also houses several historic buildings dating back to 1907 including The Masonic Temple which once served as headquarters for both Idaho Department of Forestry and Game Conservation Districts; The First Baptist Church; The MtnHome Museum located adjacent to Centennial Park; and finally Riverview Drive Elementary School where students were taught about Native Americans before becoming citizens themselves during World War II thanks in part to local educators like Mrs. Mattie Wilkinson[1] who provided classes for Japanese-American children living on other families' farms across Valley Township while also working at Centennial Park high school during that time period[2]. The development boom that took place around Century Plaza starting in 1990s continues into present day with numerous new businesses opening up along Red Roof Road including Dental Supply Plus (2000), Siple & Associates (2001), JB's Pizza(2002), Starbucks(2006), Taco Cabana(2007) among others etc., making this stretch one busy shopping district right next door! Most recently there have been several restaurant conversions/renovations happening such as Cook Out Grill being converted into Auberge Gastropub&Café beginning in SPRING 2016 followed by Live Oak Lodge conversion into Five Guys Burgers & Fries beginning IN OCTOBER 2017! With so much going on here it’s no wonder that merchants have started noticing an uptick in online traffic lately too!
Mountain Home, Idaho was founded in 1907 by Capt. John W. Young and his family. The town has had a number of different names over the years, including Blackfoot, Boise City, and Clearwater. The population of Mountain Home peaked at 9,500 in 1925 before declining to 6,000 by 1940. The current population is 2,362 as of 2018.
