Meridian is a city in the U.S. state of Idaho. It is located on the Snake River, about 25 miles (40 km) east of Boise and 50 miles (80 km) north of the Canadian border. The population was 5,914 as of the 2010 census. The name "Meridian" comes from Spanish missionaries who came to what is now Meridian in 1847 and named it after theriver's bend near its mouth. The first permanent settlers arrived in 1868, when George Anderton founded a trading post at what is now known as Anderton Dam. By 1886, there were 10 settlements in Meridian including Anderton City, which became the town seat in 1903; and Eagle Butte, which was renamed for John Naylor*, an early settler who built a homestead on an upland near present-day Eagle Butte Lake in 1887. *John Naylor also founded Parma* village northwest of Eagle Butte Lake about 1890s

Meridian is a small town in central Idaho, United States. It was founded in 1907 by J.P. Morgan and other investors as the town of Meridian Junction. The name derived from the rivers that passed through it: the Snake River, the Butte Creek, and the Salmon River. The first post office was established in 1907 and changed its name to Meridian in 1914. The population of Meridian peaked at 990 people in 1941 but declined to 709 after World War II ended. In 1951, the population again reached 990 but dropped to 611 when Interstate 80 was built through central Idaho and nearby counties. In 1990, Meridian became an unincorporated community within Butte County along with several other towns within Butte County that had similar status pending local approval from their respective governments for incorporation into municipalities or remain unincorporated until such time as their governing institutions received similar approvals from their respective communities. From 1990-2002, Meridian experienced significant growth due to development around its downtown area which has since been renamed "The District". Since 2002, there have been efforts underway by local officials in Meridian to revive its economy by developing new businesses and encouraging retail redevelopment within its boundaries; however, these initiatives have not yet borne fruit and overall economic conditions have remained stagnant over the past few years. Although some residents continue to advocate for revitalization of Meridian's downtown area as a means of increasing resident revenue while also preserving some historical aspects of the town such as its murals created during prohibition era (the murals are now on display at Central Boise Museum), it is currently unclear whether this effort will result in any tangible progress over time barring significant changes outside of central control regarding development plans for downtown areas throughout rural America
Meridian was founded in 1907 and is the most northerly city in Idaho. The population of Meridian grew rapidly during the early 1900s, with many people coming to the area for work on the Railroad. In 1916, a new courthouse was built and the town became an important transportation center. The city experienced another boom during World War II, with many people moving to the area to serve in the military or become involved in industry. In recent years, Meridian has seen a decline in its population and become a primarily agricultural town.
