He set up a cabin where he raised livestock and grew crops. After five years, he decided to move his family southward into what is now southern Ada County so they could better mine coal near Corvallis. In 1898 Jens's son Lars started operating a sawmill on Deer Creek which became one of the largest mills in America during that time period grinding stone for building materials and other goods such as flour, cheese, lumber and coal until 1955 when it closed down due to lack of demand or competition from other mills around that time period. An interesting note about this mill is that Lars had an outside water line drilled all the way down into his mill floor so that if there was any rain or snowstorm coming through those floors below (which happened quite regularly during those days), then not only did he have emergency power available but also liquid fuel remained available for operation even though it would be freezing cold! Lars also ran a blacksmith shop next door which turned out some really nice items like saddles and horseshoes as well as some really tough tools like chisels etc., something you can still see today at 3684 Silt Rd #1 (just east of US 95). A post office called "Hansen" was established here on July 9th 1899 by Peder Hansen with mail service between Boise and Hanceville; however this too failed because no one wanted to take advantage of an extra stop on their way west since they were already going much faster than anyone else at that time! A new post office called "Kuna" opened its doors on October 12th 1902 by Mr. Moultrie with mail service between Boise and nearby Sunnyside; however again this post office failed because although everyone wanted to use it, nobody made any money off of it! On May 25th 1906 Wm."Moses" Eldredge came overland from Oregon via Wells Valley under route 94 & rte 7 arriving just before dark enroute kinawea country[sic]He left behind him 3 wives & 10 children including 4 setsters viz: Harry (1905-1972) Alice (#died young), Martha Jane (#born 1916), Royce John (#born 1922), Esther Lillian (1926-2005). Kinawea Country [sic] included present day Coeur d'Alene Rodeo Ranchos [sic] & vicinity[sic] . . . On arrival Moses set up home w/ 6 oxen & 2 horses @ Tanana Lake known then as White Butte where later homesteads been erected av’d grnd work done c 1905-1920.(Kinawea Country) His ranch operated until 1942 when local ranchers bought it back from Moses Eldredge(?) Today’s farmers typically grow corn oilseed rape maize sunflower soybeans wheat etc., using modern techniques like herbicide application after planting fearing pests or diseases; While many people still consider themselves locals simply because they live here – whether rural homeowners or city dwellers - there are many others who have moved away over the years – either choiceologically or politically – making Kuna their home away from home!

This move led to some changes in culture and demographics within the town; however, many longtime residents remain today and continue to contribute importantly to its economy.
The first European to visit Kuna was Captain John Franklin in 1847. He named the island after his native country, Kongo, in order to attract attention to its potential for fur trade. The first businesses on the island were a store and post office. In 1872, the Kuna Indian School was founded and operated until it closed in 1960. The school taught Native American children from Kuna, Loloi, Pahoa and other islands near the coast of California.
