During World War II , local citizens supplied materials for both the military effort and domestic production In 1954, Joe Ahern started operating his own trucking company out of town providing transportation services for local farmers . Over time many businesses have been located within walking distance of each other including a large grocery store (Cascade's) that stopped operating in 2006 but has been renovated into an apartment complex . The first people to set foot in what is now Kuna were members of the tribe known as the Blackfeet, who had migrated from Canada to hunt and trade with the Indian nations around them. In 1881, Norwegian-born Father John Foltz arrived at Kuna after traveling through British Columbia and selling goods to Native Americans there. Foltz built a cabin nearpresentday Kuna Creek and named it Fort Foltz after himself. He also began trading with local tribes for items such as flour, meat, potatoes, tobacco and beads. In 1887, Father John Foltz's son Alfred built a log cabin on what is now State Road 246 between present day Meridian and Kuna creek. This became known as Alfred's Cabin because it was used by Alfred as his home until he sold it in 1916 to Jens Wahlgrens for $580 cash (equivalent to $ ). Wahlgrens donated it to the city of Boise in 1924 when he bought land adjacent to Boise Airport for that purpose; it currently serves as one wing of City Hall. In 1911–12 some Natives living along Snake River below present day Kuna settled down near present day Caldwell County line where they built what would become known as Caldwell Ranch or Old Caldwell Ranch about 4 miles east of today's downtown Kuna . Some descendants Of these early settlers still live along this stretch today . The Others who lived closer to their ancestral homes moved west over time during various changes brought about by white settlement including ranching activities which led to other towns being founded nearby like Eagle Butte
