Kuna, Idaho is a small town located in the Sawtooth Mountains of eastern Idaho. The population was 1,823 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Coeur d'Alene metropolitan area. The first people to live in what is now Kuna were the Kalispels and their predecessors who arrived in 1868 from British Columbia. They were followed by the Crows Nest Mexicans who settled here around 1910. In 1916, Kuna became a settlement when entrepreneurs named Harry and Florence Hanks opened a grocery store on Main Street. That same year, Jens Daugherty came to Kuna from Russia to homestead and started cutting lumber for a sawmill that would later be built at nearby Britney. In 1916 also, Roy Christensen arrived from Norway with his family to farm land just east of downtown Kuna. The community formed around these early settlers with businesses opening up such as groceries, schools (one being operated by Mrs. Hanks), churches (two being built during this time), and an army post that served as a rifle range for local residents until it was closed down in 1942 because of World War II nuclear radiation fears.. Jens Daugherty opened his own grocery store in 1926 which became known as "The Old Mill". He sold it off in 1949 but still operates it today as a business center serving the surrounding rural communities including Butte and Carbon County.. Roy Christensen founded another small business called The Golden Nugget which manufactured goods such as radios and phonographs before folding up shop due to economic conditions in the late 1930s.. One popular summer tradition in Kuna was swimming while wearing sarongs provided by locals or brought over from Butte where swimming beaches existed at various points along the Snake River Valley.. Early residents collected firewood which was used both for heating homes and cooking food; later electric heaters were introduced into this culture making fireplace use less necessary .. . From 1941-1945 when Nazi Germany occupied Europe during World War II many people fled East Asia due to concentration camps set up throughout Japan including those living near Kuna where they worked on farms or construction sites adjacent to Hiroshima Atomic bomb blasts

The first people to live in Kuna, Idaho were the Hidatsa. The area was land that the Hidatsa had been using for hunting and fishing since before recorded history. In 1877, a group of settlers from Minnesota started living in the area. They called themselves the Dakota Sioux and began farming the land. The settlers were friendly with the Hidatsa and would help them with their hunts and fishing. Over time, other groups moved into Kuna, including the Cheyenne and Arapaho. Some of these groups fought against one another but eventually got along with each other. In 1912, Kuna was incorporated as a town by its residents.
