Kuna is a small town in southeastern Idaho, located on the Snake River. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Boise-Nampa-Idaho Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name Kuna comes from the Kiowa word "kuna" meaning 'to run or flee'. The first settler in what is now Kuna was George Grey who arrived in 1877. He and his family moved to what is now the city of Nampa in 1907 and began ranching operations that would lead to their eventual sale of land to the community. The townsite was platted on February 20, 1909 by J.C. McGee with a population of 15 residents. A post office called Kuna had been established in 1908, and served until it was discontinued in 1912. Kuna's first school opened in 1911 and remained operational until 1955 when it merged with neighboring Nampa High School #2 to form Kuna-Nampa High School #1 which remains as Kuna's only high school today. In 1941, during World War II, Kunas received shipments of war material from various countries through the US Postal Service which helped contribute to its rapid growth over subsequent decades; this included an increase from 2 residents per household (1910) to 10 residents per household by 1950 (the current rate). In 1951 Kuna became one of two towns within ID that were designated as County Seat for Ada County after it was combined from Butte County and ghost Town Kemmerer

In 1916, when Congress passed the Indian Territory Act, it created 3 new counties in Idaho - Klondike County (now Blackfoot County), Cowlitz County (now Similkameen County) and Sawtooth County (now Clark County). As part of these changes, Kuna's incorporation as a city didn't take place until 1922 when it became one of 20 cities within Klondike county along with Boise City and Eagle Pass City. Kunas annexation as an independent city took place on November 6th 1922 followed by its election as an official city on December 14th 1922 with Mayor Harry Laughlin serving as inaugural president
