In 1911, the original stocks for the Idaho Falls Rifle Shooting Club were designed by Master Gunsmith C.E. "Doc" Elliott and built by Purdy Manufacturing. By 1912, the club had moved to their current location on Second Street in downtown Idaho Falls and began using this new stock design. In 1932, a new stock design was developed by Master Gunsmith Carl Fenton which incorporated a recoil-damping buffer tube into the breech block assembly. Thisstock design would remain in use until the early 1960s when it was replaced by the current model stock used today.
Idaho Falls is a small town in Idaho located on the Snake River. The population was 2,451 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Boise- Eagle County, ID Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Idaho Falls" comes from an 1868 map of the area by George Catlin and post office opened in that year with that name. The falls were named for the Intelligencer (a newspaper) because it was founded there in 1867 and published until 1901. The first store built in Idaho Falls was called "Grizzly Joe's" after rancher Grizzly Joe Smith who donated land to make the falls possible. In 1912, a man named Harry Aiken built a mill on river about two miles downstream from where today's Idaho State Capitol stands. He also laid out what is now downtown and started buying lots around town to build his house which he called "the White House". In 1916, when Fred Beckman bought most of what is now east side of Main Street from Aiken, he renamed it Beckman Park in honor of his friend and business partner who helped him build up the business over time. At one time or another, all six blocks around town had namesakes: Halsey Hall (1923), Catfish Hall (1927), Beckman Park (1936), McGee Arena (1968-1969), Boise State University Center Campus Drive (1998-1999), and finally Idaho Falls Civic Center Drive at its current location on Saturday night football game day against Oregon State University on October 20th 2009 as part of National Football League Sunday Night Game festivities taking place throughout America’s last remaining rural community culture capital – classic American values including family fun, free speech rights guaranteed by Constitution Amendment I., etc….
