The committee's goal was eventually accomplished when chunks of forest were donated by developers who wanted to build homes on them but also preserved important environmental features such as streams and valleys that made this area attractive for hiking and naturewatching; today much oftown is protected as parks or open land comprising some 5 miles (8 kilometers) of well-maintained trails with diverse habitats including montane rainforest ecosystems

Presidents John F Kennedy and Richard Nixon both visited during their terms as president; both men enjoyed visiting this beautiful waterfall on occasion only weeks after inaugurations were held each year at Montpelier Palace nearby in Vermont – something that is still unique today!
The first white people to visit what is now Idaho Falls were Mormon pioneers in the 1840s. The first permanent settler in present-day Idaho was a group of men led by Major General David Whitcomb who founded the town of Lewiston on the Clearwater River in 1847. The population of Lewiston grew gradually, and eventually became an important trading post on the Snake River. In 1863, Lewiston was attacked by Indians and burned down; the town never recovered. In 1885, gold was found at Sperryville in eastern Oregon, and soon thereafter mining operations began there as well. By 1888, over one thousand miners had been working at Sperryville when it was destroyed by a fire. The town never recovered and ultimately ceased operations altogether. The area that would become present-day Idaho Falls was first inhabited by Native Americans for centuries before Europeans arrived; evidence suggests that early humans may have hunted game hereabouts as early as 10,000 years ago. Evidence also indicates that trade with other tribes took place here long before European exploration began: Indian tombs dating back to 4500 BC are located near Iron Mountain National Monument in southern Idaho
